Hot Rods Bought a model A roadster for 25.00 yesterday

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris, May 15, 2017.

  1. I was at a local Estate auction yesterday at a guy I knew who had passed. He was mainly into 1957 Pontiacs and Model A's. His entire estate was being auctioned, so I decided to go. Things were bringing decent money but as the day went on the crowd thinned. Finally they got down into some sheds and out back where all the "parts cars were".

I knew this A roadster was there, and it ended up being one of the last things sold. I wa shocked when I started the bidding at 25.00 and no one else bid! So I drug it out of the woods and hauled it home

I cleaned all of the pine needles out of it and was surprised at how solid it is. The passenger door has been pushed in but otherwise it's a pretty strait, decent start to a roadster. All 4 wheels were locked, so today I got them all free and rolled it into storage

Here is everything else I bought. I spent 128.00 total including tax and dealer percentage. Ironically I got a lot of 28-29 Model A stuff...before I bought the car lol

Well done Chris, always amazed at what you uncover / recover, it's not just luck, you make your own luck, staying to the end pays off.
    A great days haul.

Awesome. Model A Roadster just sitting neath the pines waiting for you. Way to tough it out to the end. If I planned that attack here, there'd probably be 20 guys also waiting to bid on it. Auctions and estate sales here are a crazy feeding frenzy.
Did the other old cars pictured (Sedan, etc.) get bid on and bought or are they going to scrap?

Awesome score! When you start on this one post it up. If it comes out half as good as the last one you built it will be exceptional as well! :D

  19. Cars ended up going cheap. I bet there was 800 people at the beginning, and by the end maybe 25-30? Lots of cars with no titles were selling for under 100.00. Hardtop Pontiacs even. And heaps of parts selling cheap too. If yesterday wasn't mothers day, I would have bought more. But you had limited time to get what you bought, out.

This 57 Pontiac sold early in the day for 2900.00. I wanted it bad, but couldn't justify spending that kind of money plus 8% commission and tax. It did have decent leather interior and was said to have been started a few days before...but had sat since the 70's so would still need everything. I watched two 56 Pontiac hardtops sell for 100.00 each- no titles and stripped but still decent cars if you really wanted one. One dealer from Boise, ID bought a lot of the Pontiacs including this red one

This 57 had no title and was rougher but sold for 600.00

These two double A trucks and a head of scrap so big, would probably fill a dump truck, sold for 80.00

This T with tractor wheel conversion sold for 300.00

  20. I will, but it will be a while. I honestly did not have any intentions on buying another car. So this is in parts collecting phase. I did find the cowl support, that goes across cowl and dash rail attaches to, on ebay so grabbed it.

I'm really thinking this would be a great late 50's drag roadster....

HRP I can't say to a guy who builds cars like Chris does that I hate him, I can however tell him and you I am absolutely green with envy at his shop, his cars, his skills... :D

Shouldn't take too long to built it up just like your previous one, now that you've got the recipe down.
