I'm in the final stages of my baremetal Lincoln. My question is for anyone who has done this.
What did you do to get all the swirls and blemishes out of the metal to give it that nice clean look before clear coating ????
I have it looking decent but not clean.
Thanx in advance for any help

Clear is paint, paint needs primer to adhere well, bare metal and flat finishes have all but run their course, make it shine.

The whole clear coat B.S. is RAT ROD in capital letters. Maybe weld some log chains and saw blades on it while your at it

Tough crowd, but I have to agree.
To me a clear over bare metal is to show off new metal bodies at a vender's booth

Let it rust first, then spray clear over it to preserve the "PATINA".

I'm running into MORE-n-MORE people who JUST can't AFFORD paint.
N- more and more GO-FAST parts as well, they just can not afford the luxury.

Clears were never intended to go over bare metal and most likely will not stay on long

Pretty sure that is why paint was invented.

Don't listen to everyone who says you need to paint it, do what you want. I used a scotch brite pad on mine. I don't have clear on mine, just use a Gibbs oil on it to keep it from rusting, works pretty good. Go ahead you can bash my car now for not having paint as well.

I had a student once who clear powder coated a bare metal tank and fender for his motorcycle. To prep the metal he wet sanded it down to 800 grit then polished it with simichrome polish. It looked fine but I do not know how it held up as he left a few weeks later.

Hey do what you want your car . Run their course it's not about doing it for the trend. Did you paint your ride goofy purple 5 years ago lol. An the swirls are cool but try a polishing Stone and then wash it in a sealer to have the clear stick .

Nothing can seal metal other that primer or paint clear with not adhere well and it will turn a funky color baking in the sun.

I'm with Big Bang, try Gibb's. It comes in a spray can and will last over 4 - 5 months. If you see some light rust starting, grab a Scotts Brite Pad and dust the rust off and spray it again.

Google "Harley Davidson CVO clear coat over metal finish". They have had a ton of trouble with the finish rusting under the clear coat. It looks cool but it doesn't seem to work.

Enzo Ferrari painted his racers bright red, the Brits chose dark green. The Germans brought their Porsches, no longer white, but 'silver'? Not paint. NO paint. They stripped them, for a weight saving advantage!
...and that's why German racers are still silver.
