Projects 1960 Chrysler New Yorker Rustoration

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BrandonBerkosky01, May 5, 2017.

  1. This car has been sitting since 1980 from what my father tells me. He bought it for $75 because he liked the fins and never touched it again. I was born in 87 so I just remember it sitting in my yard all my life.
Time to bring her back from the dead. Just going to make a fun driver out of it.

    OK, You win!!!
I've been told that I was crazy for rebuilding some of the projects I've undertaken, and afterwards, I tend to agree with them. Your project rates right up there with some of mine. The biggest difference between your project and mine is when I did something that rough, I would have put a different frame under that car, and you are actually rebuilding it back to original. That, my friend, takes a lot more heart and soul then I have!
I wish you luck, and will be watching this thread, giving you encouraging words as I can. Keep us posted as you go. Gene

Sitting in the dirt really does a car good, yes?

Oh man, that car looks like it's from the northeast somewhere. It's tough to get something decent up here.

Killer job on the fab work, those big old chryslers are great.

I'm so glad you are saving it. Too many old cars are gone.
How did it go from blue to being red front and rear with white center?

  12. Thank you for the encouragement. If it was a full frame car I would have considered putting a frame under it. But it's a unibody. You wouldn't believe how strong this thing is. When I was leveling the car out to tack in my frame rails I had a jack under the front control arm and the whole driver side of the car was coming up.

  15. When we were kids me and my friends painted it one summer with whatever paint we found on the shelves in the basement. Then my father painted it red and white with rust oleum. I don't know why he chose those colors

  16. Everyone tells us to find another. Which we could easily do. We know it's not worth anything because it's a four-door. But my father is very sentimental. We have to fix this one or not at all. He doesn't want another one. And I don't mind doing it it's just more practice for me. Plus I get to hang out with my dad.

You will have a beauty when she is done. Keep that in mind when you hit mental walls during the build.

You have skills, keep at it as it is looking great so far. When did it change color from blue to red with white doors?

Great talent and attention to detail. Enjoy the time with your dad I would love to be able to do that with mine.

Seeing all the work you are doing reminds me of a PBS special on the cars of Cuba and someone was doing what you are doing to a late 50s Chrysler product and installing a fork lift motor.

  24. I think I saw something like that where they used a 55 gallon drum to replace the floor pan.

Being a father and son project make it even better!

My son and me are doing an off topic motor & trans swap into his 57 Dodge Wagon. Its a lot more work then I would have taken on myself. He took this past week off work as a vacation week, just to work with me on his car. We made great progress, but it isn't done yet. I will be happy to see him return to work next week (I believe the feeling is mutual). We got along great, but I'm not (nor is he) used to working this hard, we both might need a vacation to recover from his vacation... LOL! Gene

Crap, do I feel lazy now!

Do you plan on putting wheels on the casket afterwards?

  30. That's going to be a dragula. After the 55 Buick and the chrysler. Lots of projects.
