Go to the salvage yard and walk around until you find a rear wheel well that you like and cut them out and install on your ride.

You have a tear drop shaped rear wheel well. They look good when you keep that shape, and just make it bigger.

Got the lettering on the doors and the A/G freshened up and added some more stuff I've been thinking about for a while. The guy that originally did the doors and A/G didn't clear them so they were peeling and fading. Not sure if the previous owner wanted it that way or not. Anyway, Larry Fator @ Quicksilver knocked it outta the park! 20170425_175029.jpeg 20170425_175106.jpeg 20170425_175046.jpeg 20170425_173916.jpeg

when your measuring for the radius, would u have the car on the ground or jack it up and put it on jack stands? I think i'm just going to do the string and marker trick.

ill measure from the center of the axle and use a rod that's level tied to a piece of string tied to a maker.

I used an axle puller with a yard stick and a sharpie, two holes in the yard stick draw a radius you like take a deep breath and cut it.

If you have any information on this car I'd really like to know it's history. I've read it's from the Midwest. Fort Dodge Iowa.

I'd like to bring up a topic I haven't seen discussed here, and that is the banning of mini bikes by the track management. My racing partner and I have always brought 2 mini bikes to every event we go to. I can see that we won't be allowed to do so at this year's Meltdown. So, will non-motorized bicycles be allowed? How about an electric motorized 3-wheeled scooter? I might be able to bring a 3-wheel bicycle. Is that allowed? These are serious questions. My buddy and I are getting old, and we don't get around as well as we used to. Meltdown guys, please reply.

    John-

I hope I can answer this for you...and thank you for the way you brought the question up. You did it very professionally.

So, last year was an absolute "crap show" as it relates to mini-bikes. We had multiple min-bike accidents and as you are aware, the crowd at the event is huge and we expect it to be even larger this year due to a major car event being moved out of Milwaukee that was held the same weekend as the Meltdown.

The issue w/ the mini bikes is three-fold: 1) people are driving them way too fast, 2) few, if any, have lights and people love to drive them at night and finally 3) people like to let anyone who can fog a mirror try driving them. To put it in perspective we actually had a trucks of "dudes" show up with a bunch of mini-bikes to just ride around.

So, if you want to bring a non-motorized bike...no problem. If someone has a disability that requires them to use a cart, scooter or a rascal...no problem. I am going to say "no" to the motorized bicycle as I can already see where that will head.

I hope you and everyone else understands...we go to a fair amount of events and when you have a small crowd (like 2,500 people) these things are not an issue...we have unfortunately reached a point at Byron that the 10,000+ people there is reaching capacity.

We were actually talking the other day about during the first 5 or 6 years of the event the golf carts helped us Meltdown guys get around fast, but now with so many people I think walking ends up actually being faster due to the crowds.

Hope I answered your question and let me know if you need anything else.

BTW - I can't wait to see that Nova of yours run again this year!

You're kidding right? A 62 Chevy with a 409, you're more than worthy! A lot of people would be disappointed if they didn't get to see you makin' some passes, me included! Not to mention the guys wanting a spot on your dance card!

Thanks Man! Willy and the Poor Boys are staying home. My driving copilot moved across the country, so I'll be flying to North Carolina on Wednesday for an early departure on Thursday morning. Same thing I did last year, which worked out great. Hopefully this year we can bypass the flat on the motorhome in Southern Illinois which put us behind a few hours and cost us some BS time at the track on Thursday. That whole situation actually ended up being a pretty cool encounter with some of the local folks as it turns out. Anyway, Ric and I enjoy the trip up in the motorhome and taking turns driving and being the BUG with Yesterday's Chili. It's also fun tuning on it together and making sure we stay a tenth or two ahead of "The Giraffe" and his iron lung!

If I have a dance card I sure hope the partner's didn't step up a bunch this year.
I don't feel like there will be much change this year.

You've been to the event enough to know there's plenty of dance partners for everybody!
