The beater '34 is done, so it is time to start on the '40.

This old '40 coupe is going to be a beater too. I won't be doing any more shiny black cars anytime soon. This thing is TALL, man tall. Holy shit is it tall, but it is in pretty decent shape compared to some of the crap I have drug home.

    The usual butchered firewall.

Oh, but wait, there's more....Under the bracket thingy was this:

Everybody with a '40 Ford thinks it was a moonshine car...not me. But I am pretty sure Junior Johnson qualified on the pole with this car in the Southern 500 back in the day.......

Here is the basic idea. Low, maybe black, maybe not, big giant Pontiac motor with a bunch of carbs and a TKO-600.

    See you next time, -Abone.

    Super cool!

Wonder if you can find some Grant rings an Isky cam and Wynn filter for the Pontiac, and clear coat those old racing stickers?

I really like the idea of a stick-shift, you know me, real hotrods have 3 pedals....just sayin'.

Personally I like the gearing of the TKO 500 better, if your engine develops less than 500 ftlbs of torque that is, something to consider. Where are you going to put the shifter? You could put it in the stock location (wait, did '40 fords have floor shifters or did they all go to the column by '40? I know for Plymouth '39 was the last year of the floor shifters...anyways, if '40s are on the column, then read "stock location" as stock for pre-column shifted cars) with a skinny stock shift rod (I have one if you need it), or if too flexible then a shift rod from a truck with a 4-spd granny low, that would be plenty stout and look pre-war era. Or are you going for a late '60s hot rod look with a Hurst shifter up against the seat?

    Blower... on the Pontiac?

BTW the '34 looks a hell-of-a-lot better than its '80s street rod version, bad ass job as always.

Hey Kipp. I was just out looking at property in your old neck of the woods...

Nothing too interesting to update right now, just fixing some stuff on the frame getting ready for suspension.

Love the car and love your plan for it. Since you already have a black car how about something different, like tan primer? My friend has a 39 that's tan and it looks great.

    Nothing interesting, just chassis stuff.

This is the FlamedAbone Extra Inch(tm) cross member modification.

You can also get the deluxe edition, which is an inch and a half. Basically, you just move the mounting surface of the leaf spring up an inch and a half. Free lowness.

A roller for the moment. She has to come apart for paint soon.

Last one. Don't look at the d**sk brakes.

    See ya, -Abone.

Another build from one of my favorite builders on the HAMB. The man that dispels the myth that you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

Subscribed! Love all 39/40 Fords. Would've liked a picture or 2 removing the body from the frame.

  27. Oh yeeeaaah!
BTW, I'm stealing the front crossmember mod for my pickup if the tire clearance works out.
What's the story on getting the rear down equally?

The most basic chassis you have ever seen.

Everything you need to put a TKO-600 behind a 389 Pontiac.

An ass load if work to get that big rear wheel in there, but it's Dick Fitzwell.

Might have a motor and tranny sitting in it this weekend...

Jeff, take plenty of pics where the tranny mounts are. I am looking at this tranny for my 36.
