It would be cool to see the actual list of racecars that George Waterman owned.
Here is part of the Simplex brochure on the miniature Simplex. Amazing that Ed machined every little part. I bet Simplex 1.jpg Simplex 2.jpg Simplex 3.jpg Simplex 3.5.jpg Simplex .jpg he had a decent collection of tweezers and magnifying glasses.

  2. After last season's many DNF's from minor things like rockers coming loose and unporting too much oil; we've made the many fixes and are ready to make good on the great qualifying times. We'd qualify with times as much as 10 seconds better than prior times on some tracks. But we just couldn't FINISH the weekend.
All the glitches large and small have been addressed. We begin our season the first part of May at Buttonwillow Raceway (West of Bakersfield CA.) 20160622_155210.jpg 2014-04-19 14.59.17.jpg

  7. We just received our invitation to the 2017 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion (RMMR). We start our season at Buttonwillow Raceway (VARA'S "British Extravaganza") in early May. Then in early June we go to The Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival. At the Paso Robles airport there is "The Gezzer's BBQ", a gathering of Hot Rods and early Race Cars. This year "Speedsters and Gow-Jobs" are featured (let ME know if you are interested). And finally on July 8th there will be the F.A.S.T. Time Trials at the historic Santa Margarita Ranch.
Below is the pace lap for the start of the 2015 RMMR "PreWar" main (coming off Turn 10 at Laguna Seca).

    L to R:
1931 Alfa Romeo P-3 (Eric Shirley); 1932 Miller-Schofield Ford (our car); lurking in back is a 1927? Bugatti Tipo 39 (Charlie Shalvoy); next to me is a recently constructed Ford V8 Champ Car (Max Jamiesson); on the pole is the red 1939 Maserati 4CL (Paddins Dowling) and behind Paddins is a 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 "Monza" RMMR2015-3.jpg

I'd like the date of the Paso event.

  10. GOOD QUESTION! It's on Saturday, June 10th. The host is Chuck Wentworth, operator of Antique Aero, Propellor Rd., Paso Robles Airport. Send me a PM and I'll give you Chuck's contact so that he can send you an Invitation. The only charge of the event is a donation (usually $20 for the BBQ). If you don't eat, no charge. Parallel rear springs seem out of place, but most everything else says Model-T.

Does anyone recognize this frame? some think it's from a T, but looks too long. I think it's from some sort of tourer. P3260961.JPG

Ask 31dodger, he's the best at knowing ID's. The fenders look Oldsmobile-ish.

It has no transverse spring mounts, so I don't think it's Furd.

NOT Ford Model T, looks like a mid size car from the 1915-25 era. Those rear fender mounts are unlike any I've ever seen, should help to ID what it is. If it is free for the taking I'd grab it. Bob

It was left in the desert when it broke down during an early cross country race? Not a Ford, Not a Chevy, Not and Essex and probably not a Hudson but not sure. It doesn't look similar to the teens early twenties Dodge frame I have either. If that's the cowl in the background it might help identify it.

  24. That's a big one. I will have to work on that one.

Definitely not a T - not with that rear kickup.

Jim good to see you posting as I have not seen it in a while.

Willy Nilly in regards to the pictures you posted the racing picture I believe is the Grand Prize Auto race held in San Francisco of February 1915. Most of these cars also competed a week or so later in early March in the Vanderbilt Cup. These race was held in conjunction with the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition (In essence the World's fair).

To give it some perspective, I believe they gave it the name in honor of the opening of the Panama Canal which was finished and opened in late summer of 1914). Not only that but San Francisco wanted to showcase their herculean efforts in rebuilding their city after the earthquake and fire of 1906 which destroyed major parts of the city.
This race was held in what is now the Marina district I believe.

The race had been rained out and delayed and when they actually ran the race on February 27 it rained I have read for 5 of the 7 hours of the race. Some of the drivers tried to run in the mud but a number of them parked their rides. The wood planking seen here was used in front of the pits and start finish line.

Some of the cars in the photo are Claude Newhouse in the #15 Delage, Glover Ruckstell in one of the big Type 45 Mercers (#6), Earl Cooper in his Stutz (#8), Caleb Bragg in I believe the Californian which was Mercer powered (#14) and William Taylor in his #29 Alco. None of these cars did well in the muddy Grand Prize which was won by Dario Resta in his Peugeot.

With front frame horns, all those cross members and the kick up at the rear, definitely not T.
