Is that one of the years that has RH and LH threads, depending on what side of the car you are on?

Correct. I'm almost thinking this car will never have mag wheels by the way it's going.

Skirts on the rear, with trim rings only on the wheels. Cadillac sombreros on the front.

    100% Kustom.

Can't you just screw in hardened studs with lock tight into the hubs. That's what we do with the 70's Airstream trailers to convert the old ones to the new "mag style" wheels.

Cragers didn't have the oval indent, Keystones did, and maybe others. Crager just used a thick offset or centered washer depending on bolt pattern.

You could drill and use press in studs.

That sounds doable... What would I need to do?

Here is a copy of the Dorman catalog, that has wheel studs in it: http://www.billavista.com/tech/pdf_...Tires/Dorman Wheel Studs and Nuts Catalog.pdf

That shows the specs (scroll down to section 10, page 142).

I would recommend that a machine shop drill out your current holes, and cut a flat on the back side for the head to sit on. That catalog should contain studs that will make it all the way through your hubs/drums/etc., and have enough to get through the wheel. A good machine shop should be able to help you select the right ones.

Unilug mag wheels do not require special studs, as long as they are long enough (and not too long). They require special nuts and washers.

Previous owner of my 47 Plymouth Conv had done the front hubs as Gerrys suggests. I've since changed to a Nova subframe, but it worked very well.

McMaster-Carr has B7 Grade right and left hand 1/2-20 threaded rod.

    https://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-threaded-rods/=173pagd

BTW, passenger side is right hand threads, driver side is left hand.

  14. I did that on my Plymouth. I think I used ford explorer studs. Got them at Napa. Drilled out the threads and I think I just used in impact to pull the studs through the hub.

Would still have to find a source for the left hand thread lug nuts.

Well I got some studs made to mount wheels... Found out 14s won't fit over the brakes. So now I'm looking for 15s. Anyone have any cragar ss for sale? Or a similar wheel?

Well yesterday I scored on craigslist. I found (2) 15x7 Cragar SS wheels and 5 caps. (I still need to find 2 more 15x7) I met with the guy and bought them right away. The 2 used cragars, had never been used. And the 5 caps were all still in the plastic, in the box. (I got the caps for $5 each)
20170416_104928.jpg 20170416_105519_HDR.jpg 20170416_111703.jpg So I went home to see if the drivers side stud set my friend made (still making them for passenger side) will work. They will, but 6 out of the 10 he made were bent. But I still put the cragars on to see how they look. Then I got excited and lowered the rear down. 20170416_121715.jpg 20170416_175919.jpg 20170416_180905.jpg 20170416_181126.jpg I love the classic look of these on the car. I think after I find 2 more wheels I'm gonna get the 3 bar spinners for them. I think that will look awesome! If anyone has 2 nice cragar ss they would like to get rid of, please let me know!!

Still unsure why you want to put muscle car wheels on a kustom.

For the 60s era I'm going for, I can't think of a better wheel. Cragars and Supremes are my absolute favorite.

  27. ..... so a sectioned, diced and sliced, light hooded, and leaded 50's era, wild, Valley Kustom inspired roadster sled, was discovered in '68 and splashed with Cragar S/S's. Hmmm'. Maybe it was '78.

Your car. So talented ! So Kustom. Man, those wheels though. Too smooth and statement making to just up and chonk some 1979 air shocked Z28 Camaro wheels on it. Apologies ahead of time, but yikes man !

I keep waiting for a "pull my finger" sound effect joke. Like your f#ckin' with us, or sometin'. <ferrrrrttttttt !> Gseundheit !!!!

Like Burger King, have it your way.
Get the tri-bar spinners for those Cragars and put some pinner whites on; no apologies necessary.

  29. Good idea. Make it look like you were the first guy in town to get Cragars.
