Projects Repairing an abused & wrecked 5-window coupe

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Rocket's Hot Rod Garage, Apr 12, 2017.

  1. The owner thought I should share some of the work we've been doing on his '32 5-winder. The car was a kinda finished car with a troubled past. The history is not clear but It's had a rough life. He's been driving & enjoying the car for a coupe of years but on his way home from the previous Deuce Days run he was ran off the road by a steal truck causing some damage. He asked if we could help... IMG_2419.JPG IMG_2420.JPG IMG_2429.JPG

  2. Ya know, I'll never understand why some drivers just have to be in a hurry. Looks like you're going to be at this for a while. Good luck with the repairs. Oh, I'll keep the owner in my prayers.

Good luck. I will be watching.

  4. Thankfully the owner & his wife where fine. Sounds like his wife doesn't want to ride in the car anymore once it's done though.

The door and quarter doesn't look that bad, why the new parts. Have seen way worse fixed here in build threads. Or is there a lot of damage that doesn't show?

best part is that they did not get hurt - yes, very scary when put in a situation like that - like riding a horse, when you fall off need to get right back on - what info do you need to help figure out repairs?

Glad to see that he finally got it in your shop to be repaired. I believe that the story was that the semi wanted the lane the coupe was in and crowded them into the barrier .

This photo was taken the first time I saw the car at Rockets open house a couple of years ago.

  10. Valid question. The quarter in question was way bad before we fixed it in the past. This was before new UPI quarters where available. The chop on the door was very crude & never fit right. The owner requested that we replace the quarter and door.

New UPI quarter fit & mocked up. These new UPI parts are exceptional in fit and stamping quality.

  15. We made a template of the old window shape and chopped the new quarter window on the bench, then fit it to the car.

Check out that old leaded up seam on the back of the top.

It's sad but some will say it's not a real 32 anymore. I still like it.

  21. Still have half a real '32! Is that like only halfway kissing your sister?

  22. The quarter all wrapped up.

  23. Thanks for the kind words so far. We're glad the owner decided to let us fix the car right & try to make it better than it was.

There was also quite a bit of work that needed done on the top area above the drip rail. The pass. door never really fit right before. We had to move the post forward and in at the bottom to correct this. We think the car might have been on it's top at some point in it's life.

Nice work. Looks really straight now.
Don't toss the old door and quarter. You'll have plenty of folks that will put them to use.
