Projects Introducing the Numbnuts Coupe - Yet another A-Coupe

Been building this car for past 15 months, and have yet to make a build thread. I set a goal to get it road worthy to get to LSRU, and barely made it with only hwy testing it the day before driving it to Austin.

Numbnuts came from pestering Bass relentlessly and not grasping what I was being told. I'll take the name with honor from such a legendary builder. Ain't no shame.

Introducing the Numbnuts Coupe - as seen in Austin at LSRU

Plan to continue and completely finish this one out. Its my third hotrod, none of which have been finished out. Hope to change that trend with this car. Chopping it 3" is still being considered, but I'm a big dude and hesitant to do so. Also plan on running a full hood, but need to have one made as its extended a couple of inches.

 

Very very cool but heavy chop would help...

 

3" would be max chop. But I'd have to redo seat and make sure i'm comfortable in it first. 6'3, 270 here...I'm a big dude and am already hitting my head on bumps and getting out of coupe with stock height and stock spring seats lowered and pushed back. But know that I can get my ass down a bit by removing springs and going with foam instead.

 

Cool - looking very good - a chop would certainly be a good change - but, more important is that you are comfortable driving it - want a ride that you will look forward to driving, rather than one that is cramped that takes away from the fun

You don't need to finish anything- and DON'T chop it. That looks f'in perfect to me ( and I WAS there) That body is gorgeous!

I have basically same car, but mine is chopped. I think your car is awesome-don't change a thing!

I like it ,but a chop would give it attitude. I never get tired of chopped A's. I wish Bass still posted here. Great talent. Bill

Not as bad as I thought it would be. Tall ass rear tires help. Pulling 2k rpm at 65mph in 4th. Figured I'd be screaming going down hwy.

Perfect the way it is. No chop please otherwise it will be yet another A-coupe. Nice taillight choice and stance.

Nice....the Buick tailights give the car a little "Bass" influence. I wouldn't cut the top if it makes it uncomfortable for you to drive..not worth it and you'd grow to hate the damned car!
Love the 270 HP 283 look of the motor. Very cool.
Some days I like being only 5'9".

 

No need to chop it in my opinion, looks perfect how it is.

 

The ONLY thing I would SUGGEST you change? The top of the radiator might look better ( with the rake) if it was OUT a bit more so it's in line with the firewall. I'm a "visual" freak, and to me because the radiator is angled back ( or straight up off the frame), it creates a low spot at the cowl.

I built this, un chopped 14 years ago. Sold it, and bought it back 2 years ago. The body was PERFECT and the guy cut the roof which really pissed me off ( tough shit, right?). I'm still tring to get used to it and wish he'd left it alone. But, WTF, it WAS his .
If you DO decide to chop it, let's swap cars! Have fun, be safe, and drive the wheels off that GEM!

 

I like it, also like the fact that you plan a full hood. I'd spend the money on the hood first, you may decide it doesn't need the chop. Rootleib has made a few stretched hoods so it shouldn't be a problem. Bob

Your car, dude! But if it were mine, I'd leave it be!! Unchopped coupes make more of a "I'm different" statement than a chopped top! Just look around! They're ALL getting chopped!

Your coupe and @mazboi 's east coast coupe were two of my favorites!!

In a 10" channelled and sectioned '33 coupe I ran the floors from flush 2" in the front of the seat to a 2" deep drop 4" beyond the rear of the seat [bolt access]... let me use the whole seat's bottom pad and springs... full range of travel... never BOTTOMED out...

This car is absolutely perfect!! It is much the same direction I want to take my '31. Deuce rails without a chop. One question for you, is the front frame notched for the leaf spring? I am trying to figure out how low I can go without a notch.

 

One question. If you chop it is it going to go any faster?

PS, I like it and the closed hood might help the aerodynamics.

 

You should raise the roof.
