Whatever it is, it used to be a touring car and was turned into a pickup.

 

I think it really has the look. If I had that today I'd drive with my head held high. It does look like wooden bed sides. Bit of a Jalopy...perfect. Several companies did have trucks that shared the auto features. This one really works well. Lots of car companies back then too. Thanks 31

Pittsburgh was Gulf Oil headquarters. They had one of the first gas stations. It is gone now?

 

This is Federated Auto Parts store I drive for before it was the parts store. It had once been a Studebaker Dealership and a John Deere dealership as well. Looking for pix of those too.

 

This is my wifes granddads station in Faulkton South Dakota somewhere around 1940-41 before he went to serve in WWII. Sorry for the crummy picture, it was still hanging on the wall.

This is one of the coolest threads on the HAMB. When I was a kid, my great grandfather ran a small country store. It looked a lot like the one with the guys on the pouch drinking beer. A few things that I remember. He would take all the soda and beer metal bottle tops, and used them in the driveway. It would made a cool sound when you pulled in on them. He had the old gravity glass pumps. And this was in the 1960s. I remember the salted fish in a barrel, and the large Nehi cream of soda. But the best thing was the old guys that hung out there, with all their neat stories. Thanks for all these pictures and memories! Ron...

 

Any pickled pigs feet on the counter? The old time place like this I went in as a little kid had a big jar of them floating around in brine I guess and even though I thought they were GROSS I couldn't stop staring at them while my father was buying "stuff".

 

Yeah I do remember those, along with the pickled eggs. My granddad kept red man chew'en to-backie in his back pocket. I wanted to be like him. So he would slice off thin dried chip beef, and put in in a Red Man tobacco bag for in my pocket too. I miss him, he was so cool and fun.

This one is still a Firestone in Tallahassee, FL, minus the gas pumps, and is still using the neon signage.

 

This one is also still standing in Tallahassee, FL, but now used as an office/storage for a plumbing company, still looks pretty much the same, no signage.

 

Gulf station down the street from where I grew up in Tallahassee, FL, my grandmother frequented this one, sadly is no more...

 

Present day! This one has been restored by a fuel dealer in Quincy, FL, perfect backdrop my Caddy! It currently houses a restored 53 Chevy fuel truck, NOS tires, oil cans, tools, etc. from that time period.
