Event Coverage Portland swap meet 2017 who's going ?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Ed Angel, Feb 6, 2017.

  1. Lots of small dive motels on interstate which is on the light rail line that drops right at the swap meet way easier then the bus. I stay at the palms

I'll be at PIR in the infield with a couple friends selling an A coupe body with title, a '39 pickup with title, a 1919 Dodge roadster, a small pile of A parts, a pair of Mickeys on Americans, and a bunch of other stuff

    Raingear??
I grew up working outdoors on the Washington coast without rain gear.
All a little rain will do is increase my chances of finding a deal by weeding out the less hardy!

I was born in Portland, everything I own is rain gear...even my birthday suit is water repellent and webbed!

What do you think will be in the moon tank?

Do you remember on Forest Gump when Cap'n Dan is dangling from the mast of the shrimpin boat, yelling at God asking "is this the best you can do?". Good, now replace the ocean with an auto swap meet and instead of Cap'n Dan insert me hanging onto my shelter tent with both hands so it wouldn't fly away and you have an accurate picture of being an outdoor vendor in Portland today.

Rain is normal here but wind gusts to 35 mph and micro bursts to 45ish? I'm tired, skin it is burned and chapped from the wind. We had to tear the tarp off the pop up, put it back on when we got soaked and repeated that process throughout the day. Held onto it when the wind tried to take the entire booth to OZ a few times and there is nothing you can do with micro bursts other than pick up all your parts, find your now empty solo cup and pour another round.

Weather keeping the buyers away or indoors at least. Wish I was indoors. Never found portashitters more welcoming, thought a while about eating my lunch in there.

I'll get up and do it again tomorrow, hope for better conditions but continue to weather the storm. It is what we do!

Look for the guy flying a kite that looks strangely similar to a 62 Nova.

PIR Swap, or as it may come to be known - The Great Tent Migration of 2017 - Claimed many a life of the migrating tent. Their mangled carcasses crashing to the ground in an often unsuccessful attempt at escaping the clutches of earth's gravitational pull drove away many a weary participant. Buyers and sellers alike fled from the threat of assault as they took to the sky. But, in honor of their sacrafice, we will return again tomorrow to brave the weather to seek out the hidden treasures that await us.

I post this effigy in rememberance of those who did not make it...

Made it to PIR Thursday & The Expo Friday, picked up a few small items. I feel for you guys who were vendors, having to sit it out with the wind and rain. At least Thursday afternoon did get sunny.
