LOL I became quite the expert at changing FE plugs as I started with a 390 64 Galaxie easy peasy, then a 67 Comet 390 not too bad, then a 67 Mustang and oh crap, and the worst of all a 69 torino Super Cobrajet.

AND I used to change them every Friday on get ready for Sunday Drags day THE MOST IMPORTANT ADVICE START DOING IT WITH A STONE COLD ENGINE. If the engine is hot or even warm double or triple the amount of time to allow for blowing on fingers and thinking up new cuss words on the spot. But by the time you get the first side done the other side is cold already LOL

  6. Did the thunderbolt 427s have chrome pentroof or rounded baldy valve covers?

  7. Rounded baldy. The pentroof showed up in '65.

  9. Found several cracks in the "freshly rebuilt" High Riser Heads. I guess these things were beat on like most race parts of the era. I don't blame the seller, he was just going by what the shop who did the work told him... waiting to see if they can be repaired[IMG]

Good for you that your keeping it old school. I know way too many people who just chop it all out. I would never buy a car that was chopped and had aftermarket suspension, but thats just me.

That FE setup is a HUGE score!

Is this going to be a drag race only engine?
May not be a big problem.

  20. Opening up the rear wheel wells for some more tire, Dale also added a metal plate as a jacking point for lifting the car .[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    I keep forgetting to ask:
Are you going injected with the 427 as well?
That is going to be one nasty FE sucker punch stuffed into a compact Falcon package,no matter what you run for induction.
Can't wait to see it run!

  25. A factory dual quad high riser manifold will be the induction. I'm trying to get it to fit under the dual snorkel hood, we will see once it's all in there, if it will fit! I have the dual snorkel hood, lift-off injection hood and would really prefer not to have a third!

Gene Cromer who's a die-hard Ford man since forever, has stated that he sometimes ran quicker times with a Hi-Riser than a Cammer, depending on track conditions, car setup etc, because the wedge motor made so much more torque,so much sooner in the power band, that it would just grunt a light little car (sort of like yours) right out of the hole, and pull like a freight train all the way through the lights, where the Cammer wanted a bunch more rpm to really work its magic.
I think you're gonna have a pretty serious weapon on your hands,Brother.

  28. Made a lot more headway today, got the shock towers cut back, interior gutted and some of the lettering removed. It's slow with 1200 grit and water! [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
