History Images of vintage gas stations ~ pre 65

I always had a soft spot for Cities Service stations, my dad was a Cities Service dealer for awhile, later became a Pemco station. This wasn't his station but there is a very similar station to this one still standing in Muskogee, Ok. It's no longer a gas station but still in daily use.

I wonder where he's putting gas in that 34 ^^^^^^^^

 

This is the oldest purpose built gas station in the UK. It was built in the 1930s but now sadly not serving fuel anymore. I used to tank my car there in the 1980s.
Apparently Lawrence of Arabia filled up the tank of his motorcycle just before he was driven off the road and killed just down the road in Dorset by a sinister black Mercedes which sped off.

A few years ago, when I belonged to an MC, our clubhouse was a 1930s gas station. Very cool building, I'll try to find a picture. The original owner used it as his personal garage (and still drove the station tow truck) long after he closed the business.

 

Here is a question for you guys. I realize we are pre 1965 on here. And I do like that. But I'm not much on using photos, that I find on the internet that's not mine. So do you think it is OK to post new photos that I take, of older cars, or older restored service stations? This is one I seen on an recent road trip. Or should they be posted on the art thread only? Ron...

You have the right idea. All of your photos of old cars, gas stations, your yard, fit into the realm of the threads that they representing. Yes, copy and paste from the internet is easy to do, but single photo(s) that you took and have information describing the scene is always so much better and enjoyable to read. I wish others would do the same.

I am not the only one to see all of those massive photos copied and pasted as fast as someone is able to do without any information. That is just filler material, not much for info, and easily skipped. Interesting photos that fit the topic with information is what these threads are all about. History of our addiction with old cars and related stuff is valuable.

We live in an information driven society, so information is what we need to keep our minds remembering what took place a long time ago. Without information on history, we are bound to make mistakes in the future...to paraphrase someone that said the quote a long time ago..

Keep posting your photos with information...they are very cool.

This post will probably get booted because it will offend those that do all of the massive postings without information. If they would do a little research before posting a single thing, it certainly would make it enjoyable for everyone that likes those historical facts and photos.

 

I like IMAGES just like the title of the thread. Not long winded screeds.

 

Not that old, my gas station I created about 15 years ago in my back yard.

 

Actually, ...it's where I park my lawn mowers and store yard tools. But, it did fool one guy. He asked if I got much business? (My house is a 1/8 mile off the road)
