I noticed that too. Seeing that the bumpers have what looks like drip marks I wonder if it wasn't actually some kind of preservative rather than rust.

  5. Looks to be hauling Gemmer steering parts. Gemmer truck.jpg

  7. I don't think this has a tiller. Looks to be a straight vertical steering column with a regular round steering wheel. Similar steering setup as the Gemmer parts hauling truck. 1910 Grabowski.jpg

  13. This picture is newly colorized! That's fine, but I sure hope the ORIGINAL black & white photographs aren't being lost.

  14. Our family spent the night in the basement. My mom was from the midwest, she had heard all about tornados, not taking any chances. The wind shook our whole house like a leaf, it hit over 120 mph at Mt Hebo radar station in the coast range, destroyed the dome and array! Our HUGE walnut tree blew down, by counting rings we estimated it was about 80 years old, so it was planted about 1880 or so.There was debris everywhere.Quite a legendary storm for the NW!

Racer- I believe the fellow in the car in that shot is probably the car owner or head wrench. In this shot taken at the same race the driver appears to be Walt Brown.

I was wondering about that; if the flamed '40 Tudor is the same car that was pretty well-known in the magazines, wasn't it black rather than maroon?
Rest assured the original b&w shots won't be "lost"; they're just digital copies.

One more batch from South San Antonio High School, and a mystery car at the end:

Any guesses on the ID? I'm thinking either one of the homemade cut-down "sport specials" from the '50s, or one of the fiberglass jobs. Wheel covers are Studebaker Avanti. Over to the experts...
EDIT: Got it - Allard K2. Wonder where it is now?

  18. Of course you are correct, they are digital copies. What I mean is replace the original B&W on the web. There are MANY pictures I remember that have just vanished from the web.I guess they are still there....somewhere, but so difficult to find they are lost really. I know a lot of people ( mostly millenials it seems ) that don't like B&W. What a shame, they are missing so much beauty.

  28. Chrisbcritter, the car in the picture is a coupe, not a Tudor. The car you're thinking of was the Bob Mccoy Tudor. Google his name and lots of pictures come up.
