Tom Davidson posted this kool picture taken the summer of '66. Paid a hundred for the hearse to haul t-shirt set up to shows. I must have been helping Ray Farhner the, car show promoter, to move the "vehicle" to a show. It was a George Barris creation, an "air car" that was supposed to fly, but never did! We just showed it as a static display. I was told that in the shows previous to ours, it was balanced on a stand and blew air out the bottom to fool the crowd that it was actually levitating! Roth also built an air car at the same time, with the same scam. I forgot a detail …....when I got the hearse, it was all rusted out. So I just taped over the rust holes with wide masking tape and then painted it outdoors at Farhner's shop using yellow enamel (didn't want to get enamel overspray all over the show cars inside!!

The blue Chevy is a very nice car , but if it were mine the grill would be replaced with floating bars or something .

Bo Huff built a clone of an old Barris kustom, this is the way it was originally built. I agree with ya, I'm not a fan of the grill but I hadn't seen it in person either.

  5. Bo Huff cloned the Stan Robles restyle of the convertible. Stan bought it in 1958.
Here's the earlier version built by Sam Barris.

  6. I don't know...I kind of like the 59 Chevy headlights in Huff's. I think this version has 56 Chevy parklights installed and they look crooked to me...Like this was a promo shot and the passenger side wasn't mounted yet. A vertical bar grille would help...

Trying to find the magazine this car was in. 1961 or 1962 Daryl Starbird did a "how to" article on installing Lincoln quad headlights in a 1957 Chevy 2 door sedan. At that time car was owned by Dan Moran from Moran, KS. Talked to Daryl and he remembers the car but he was writing articles for a lot of magazines back then and can't remember which magazine it was in. If anyone runs across the magazine I would appreciate a heads up. Daryl said he called this a "back yard custom". He did the how to article doing the headlights, never did anything else to it and never saw it again. Car was in pink primer when Daryl worked on it. Later owner painted it Matador red. This is the only photo a friend found of the car. Just trying to find the magazine. Thanks. Dick Keesling 57 Chevy August 1963 20170206_202622.jpg

Thats not the car the Frenz had at Salina one year at the old Thomas Park location, is it??? Check the cover of April 1963 Car Craft (not a "little book")

Edit myself.... probably not as the photo is dated "Aug 63" and the car on the April cover has a lot more modifications done. Unless the photo on the bridge was a much older photo, just developed in Aug 63.

Thanks for looking 54Delray, but the one you posted was definitely a different 57. Only photo I have been able to come up was definitely taken in August 1963.

I didn't realize that Bo Huff had built a clone. I'm learning more every day on here. There are a few other changes Bo added a raise rib under the trim ,with a side pipe and a vent which I didn't notice till I studied both pics.

Roth's air car was called Rotar. I owned and restored it in the 90's[IMG]

The grill pattern is'nt all that pleasing to look at but the chrome grill surround is nice. Not sure what it came from but it is a little different than a 55's.

The note with the picture says this is Art Siera's 1953 Chevy. Anybody got more pictures of this car? (With or without the girl.)
