Hot Rods Converting TH 200C to Non locking TH 200 Transmission

I am building a very light T roadster , I have a TH 350 long tail which is too long for me to use. Also have a powerglide but want a 3 speed. I came across a rebuilt 200c that will fit, I was wondering if the TCC locking torque convertor can be converted to a non locking like the earlier TH200.

 

You could run it without the lockup hooked up. In a light car like a T roadster with the lock up hooked up its probably only going to drop the rpm about 3-4 hundred. You could always convert the 350 to a 6" extension and then it would be the same length as the 200

 

According to Art ( http://www.cpttransmission.com/ ), just put a non-locking converter in. Or, just don't connect the electrical switch.
My car is about 3000lbs. and he said that I'll have no problem with overheating the trans. without the lockup feature. I don't recall now what the extra percent of slippage will be according to him, but it was minimal.
His guarantee is valid. Should be since I bought all his parts..!

Your car is probably half the weight of mine, you should be fine, just not wiring in the electrical (internal solenoid).

If it's got the lock up, why wouldn't you want to use it?

 

TH200 with or without lockup, is a fairly weak transmission, unless it's been modified. The TH200 has found it's calling in some of the Stock and Super Stock drag race classes, but again, heavily modified. Mostly because they are light, and have decent gear ratios. Although I like Powerglides for drag racing, I'd also prefer a 3 speed on the street, however, in a light car with a responsive engine, I'd go with a powerglide over a TH200. Now, after all that, are you sure it's NOT a TH250 transmission (looks like a TH350 but has a band adjustment screw the TH350 does not, and does't have a separate extension housing; the case and extension housing are one). The TH200 is also a "metric" transmission, and it even says "Metric" on the bottom of the pan. NOT talking about the 200R4 here either.

Just remember if you use the 200c that the throttle TV cable is NOT just a kick down cable, it changes the pressure in the trans and must be adjusted properly or you will fry it in about a mile. (ask me how I know after a new cable broke) After building the 200 and 200C and the 200R4 transmissions for 10 years I would not use them in a go-cart. Find a short tailshaft for the 350 and you will be well ahead, even a 700R4 or 4L60 (not a 4L60E)

 

Thanks, It is a 200c not a 200 R4. It verified this based on trans pan configuration and 6bolt 2 dowel pin bell housing. I was also told by a transmission specialist it will be fine not hooked up to the electrical connection .The transmission was rebuilt using heavy duty parts shift kit and new torque convertor. It is a pretty intensive process to add a short tail housing to my TH 350? Thanks for all the input.

Yes it is a 200c with metric on pan and 6 bolt bell housing with one piece housing

 

Thanks, I can locate a short tail shaft, I thought the 200c did not use a TV cable? I thought the 2004r used the TV cable. Thanks
