I recieved a call from Henry at Steadfast Mfg. yesterday and he is just about ready to start building my next car. The roof and cowl of the car had been filled in and he is going to put the roof insert and cowl back to original. The body has laquer paint on it from the 70's and we are going to leave that and match the paint to look old so I won't have to paint the whole car. This one will be fenderless and run a quickchange rear end. Don't know what engine and trans we will use yet, I am supposed to meet with him in the next couple weeks to iron out the details. I do know it will have that killer Steadfast stance and look. Henry will build the chassis. Here are a couple pics of the body he is starting with. Super nice, no patch panels at all. I will post more pics as the project moves along in the next mounth or so. Needless to say I am stoked to get this started.

I think the top will be chopped 4 or 5 inches. Lets hear some opinions on engine, trans combo's. Will also run a full hood and sides.

Well, I'll open the bidding with a 327 and 4 speed, of course.
    No you can't have mine.

Nice to have a reliable builder to help you reach your dreams - have you sat in a coupe with a 5" chop? Visibility & comfort should be considered - whatever motor you run put a 5 speed behind it for true highway fun

  7. I'll see DDDs 327, and raise it to 392.
I love the look of blisters on the hood sides, for Hemi Rocker cover clearance.

With a full hood, I would consider a LS if it could be dressed up to look sort of like an older fuelie corvette engine. Don't tell Ryan.
Or a HEMI sounds good too.

Since you're asking for opinions......if it were mine, I'd put in a 324 Olds mated to a Muncie 4spd with dual AFB's, old Mallory, and a generator. Plus I wouldn't chop the top. My 32 isn't chopped and I think thats one of the things that sets it apart from the rest.

    Nice start!
Power choices are so wide it's a tough choice, especially if you want to be different.
Me, I could care less about being different. I like what I like and I too would run a 327 and three pedals, be it 4 or 5 speed.
    Small journal that is. Lol
If not that, a 348 or 409 again backed by a hand shaker and 3 pedals.
I havea 327 and 5 speed in my own 32 5 window, and swap between full hood and just the top depending on what I'm feeling.
Yes, I'm a Chevy guy BUT I love the early
    Ford sheet metal! Lol

Looking forward to seeing your progress.

That Deuce is begging for a Nailhead. All cars don't need a chop. I'd leave it alone.

  14. Of course I'd use a Pontiac V/8, 4 speed and a quick change. And I'd most certainly slice the top.

Olds Rocket, Nailhead or maybe even a Y-Block with a 5-speed bolted on the back.......

And I wouldn't chop it either.

KOOL ! So many options, decisions, the quicky is cool idea. $$$ being no problem, I'd use something different like an Offy 4 cylinder or better yet a Ford/Foyt V8, think outside the box, come up with something totally different. Just my opinions this AM and I'm spending your $$$, Do what makes YOU Tickle, Good Luck, Have Fun, keep us posted, watching.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I am still not sure what engine to use. I am going to see Henry this afternoon to go over some of his ideas. I will let Henry steer me in the right direction. His vision for the coupe and mine are about the same so I will pretty much let him do what he thinks is best. I know it will be killer when he is done. I do know for sure the top will get chopped. If you put a chopped car next to an unchopped one, in my eyes, the chopped one looks so much better. Thats just me though.

If Bill Jenkins built a 32 coupe; what engine do you spose he would use?
Hint: not a hemi or bbc.

Henry was working on the frame rails when I got to his shop today. Should be in the frame jig in a week or two. Forgot to take pics today but will get some in a couple weeks. After talking it over I think I am going to go with a 350 with trips on it, 700r trans. I know it has been done before but so has pretty much everything else. Henry has the car in the pic below at his shop and we are going to chop mine about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch more than that. I think that one has a 3 1/4 or 3 1/2 inch chop. That is the plan as of now anyway. Hank-PonchoCoupe.jpg

Got some pics from Henry today, the frame rails are in the jig. Not much to show but he is underway. Needless to say, I am super excited.

Good question, How tall are you?
I have been down this road with a 32 5w as well, I couldn't have the chop cause I was too tall.

I am 5'11" and the coupe in my avatar is chopped 3 1/2 inches and I have about 3 inches of headroom in that. We have talked about a 4 inch chop to keep proportions looking right.

  26. My avatar is chopped 5", I would do that number again.
