Hot Rods GOING TO TRY IT AGAIN ~ 5 SPOKE MAGS

SOME OF MINE : American racing 1960s D spokes, Crestline 15 x 4, Cragar S/X, U.S. Indy 15 x 10 E-T, Ansen, etc., etc.

 

Here's a shot of my 300 sedan with Rocket Strikes. They are a repop version of RADIRS. The spokes only have one rib whereas original RADIRS had three.

 

@MO_JUNK so then they are a re-pop of a RADER which only had one?

 

I think the original radirs had three. Most folks look at these and think they are originals. Just like other 5-spokes, many try to duplicate with their own version-close but not to violate copyright laws. I have some vintage 5-spokes that look just like torque thrusts and even take the American cap but on the back they have a piece sign cast into each one. Some have said that's a "made in Japan" symbol.

My daily driver. Bought the Appliance mags about 1970, several years ago took off the 6x14 fronts and replace them with the proper Halibrand Gasser 5-hole dish mags, polishrd the rear 5-spokes.

 

Of course can't forget my Mysterion clone! One of the first show cars to use 'mag' wheels.

I call that a 20' paint job!!

 

I had 5 spoke on my '68 muscle car but did not think a set would like right on my old truck. I now see them as a option.

 

My '39 with a '40 nose, also my blown Willys "PSYCO", and also my '65 Stang still have it.

 

Wow, that shot of the Mustang takes me back.
About 1969 while in high school there was a small group of older local guys with beam axle street cars and one was a Mustang fastback, not postive of the year but it had 5 spokes on it also.
Boy do I wish I had been born a few years earlier and been part of that bunch.

 

Yeah...........we'll be needing more photos of that.

Well of course HRP.......round 2......five spokes seem to never go out of style. I think it's the best wheel design by American Racing that fits any car, especially the straight spoke. Original style or polished.......just the best looking wheel around.

Those are awesome rudestude, I really like it when people find these old ads and post them up.

 

Original Radirs came with no ribs (sold by Sears), one rib, and three ribs. The repops are a lot different than the originals which had high quality aluminum webs with obviously riveted on chrome plated steel rims whereas the late models are one piece aluminum castings. the chrome on those old rims was especially poor quality and began rusting from day-one. however the aluminum alloy was really good. Here a re a couple photos of the ones I used for my Mysterion clone. the first picture shows the web after 60 years of abuse and neglect, oxidized, and looking really bad. I ran it thru a quick pass on my polishing wheel and it came out looking brand new!!

 

Williy36 do you have a thread or photo sequence of the wheel rebuild?
Did you buy new hoops?

 

My set of 5 spokes. The rears are 16x8.5" and the fronts 15x 5" American Racing Wheels. This car ran w/w's on steelies for 19 yrs, but before that this set up which it runs once again. Along the way the have been bent spoke K/H's as well.
