I love the Starbird cars of this era! I think you meant the Corvair made a good donor for the Forcasta, not Predicta. By the way, the spot where those photos were taken is virtually unchanged to this day. I got the chance to hear some of Darryl's stories at the Tulsa show. It was an unbelievable experience for me. Growing up as a "car kid" around here, always going to his show... truly a Wichita area icon.
Well,It`s different.I`ll bet on a sunny day you could cook a 25 lb turkey under that canopy. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
Don't forget the John Fitch Phoenix, there was only one car built due to the fact aftert John had received a go ahead from the government to build a low production sports car Ralph Nader drove a death nail in GM's Corvair with his book (DEATH AT ANY SPEED) which John would have gotten the engine and running gear 1 of 1. The car recently sold at Bonhams auction.for $ 253,000. HRP
Jive-Bomber, Sancho,typo41, woodbutcher, HOTRODPRIMER, and, all Hambers... Thought you'd appreciate this Interview I did with Darryl in which he explains the complete history of how & why he built the "FORECASTA"...and, how the other owners revised it through the years. Here's the Link to the Interview we did at the 48th Annual Tulsa Show: http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage176.html ENJOY ! Jonnie www.legends.thewwbc.net Darryl's Interview on the story of the "FORCASTA": http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage176.html
These 60's cars of the future are interesting and cool, but man did they miss the mark by a mile on future cars! Didn't turn out their way at all! Bubble tops are great if you don't mind roasting in even mild temps, stick steering setups are pretty clumsy, most everything about them turned out to be wrong! I guess that's what makes them cool, period pieces that are very much stuck in the 60's!
Had the pleasure of meeting John and his Phoenix several times. He would drive over to Lime Rock Raceway, while our team was setting up for a big race weekend Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hambers Update... I have revised some of the visuals & the type print on the Interview page that Darryl did with me on the Forcasta...expanding the page to make it easier for all to view. If you missed it before, or, are new to the H.A.M.B. here's the Direct Link that will take you to it: http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage176.html It's cool, rare custom for sure ! And as I mentioned above, Darryl's story about all the versions is spot-on. Enjoy ! Jonnie www.legends.thewwbc.net
