Hot Rods Time Capsule 1941 Ford Business Coupe

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Hot Rod Brando, Feb 10, 2017.

  1. Just wanted to share my latest acquisition. While purchasing a set of fenders for my F1 I decided to ask if the gentleman had any cars for sale. I guess that was both a blessing and a wallet drain! I went into the garage and there sat a 1941 Ford Business Coupe that had been parked since the very early 90's. The owner recently passed away and the car was acquired along with a parts collection. The car was believed to have a cracked block or something bad on a relatively fresh rebuild of the original flathead. Turns out it was just a burnt valve. The current owner fixed that, rebuilt the distributor and carb, went through the brakes etc. He only had it two weeks... I had to buy it... It has a custom interior that was installed in 1958. Other than that the car is stock. The paint is a very old repaint, it's badly faded and chipped but quite honestly, it looks awesome. No clue what changes I will make to it but it will mostly remain as is albeit with some mild hot rod treatment... very happy... IMG_5399.JPG IMG_5401.JPG IMG_5402.JPG

    I'd just go over the mechanicals and electricals; brakes, suspension, steering, drivetrain etc; clean the gas tank and lines etc to ensure everything is safe and roadworthy and just drive it 'As Is'. As stated a low production run, you won't see many of them around at all. The first 'fat fender' model :D

    Total Ford production for 1941 was 691,455:-
    • Deluxe Coupe 11A-77A 21,622;
    • Super DeLuxe Coupe 11A-77B 14,115;
    • Special Coupe 11A-77C Units produced not given;
    • Deluxe Coupe with jump Seats 11A-67A 2,683;
    • Super DeLuxe Coupe with Jump Seats 11A-67B 6,575; and
    • Super DeLuxe Sedan Coupe 11A-72 33,019;

    That's a jewel. LOVE '41s, every part. My best bud had a black one, fresh lacquer. He took a corner too fast and rolled it, a month after installing a '54 DeSoto Firedome in it...
    I was more devastated then he was.

    A golfing buddy of mine found one just like it but with only about 45000 miles on it a year and a half ago. Think he paid about 20K for it in Portland Oregon. He started it up and drove it to Seattle and all he's done since is drive. He's not a hot rodder and plans to keep it just like it is. Your's looks almost as nice.

  15. This one is the 11A-67B (super deluxe with the jump seats). Not bad having 1 of 6575!

    The seats were done in the typical aftermarket seat covers of the time but it looks like they redone the whole interior to match,usually those seat covers were installed to protect the original seats and nothing else done. I worked at a upholstery shop that had a few rolls of that material but when I thought about it many years later went back to found out it went in the trash.

  21. Jeff, yes they did the entire interior. A lot of work and detail. The headliner is perforated and all around the rear of the interior is done in the black and white. Even the jump seats have the matching upholstery...

  22. A couple more pics, one of the sweet "backseat" area of the biz coupe, kinda rare jump seats instead of the package tray. Second pic is the only "major" thing I needed to do. Junk the leaky lacquer tank for a new one... IMG_5406.JPG IMG_5407.JPG
