2 '50 Olds coupes that were '96 (?) Wix promos with nascar stickers & a coin slot. The Crest Blue is actual Duco touchup lacquer. '41 Ford was sold only by the ISP so the story goes. '36 Chev Std 2 door was my first real car.
Got hooked on M2 when they hit the market - after the first dozen, we could pull a new one apart, lower it & flip the tires over to the black side & put it back together in 3 minutes.
The Hot Wheel Chev pickup is one of dozens of started projects from a cigar box ... HPIM0370.JPG HPIM0371.JPG HPIM0380.JPG HPIM0379.JPG HPIM0381.JPG HPIM0383.JPG HPIM0384.JPG

A lot of the die cast I have isn't HAMB friendly. I quit the business of die cast collecting about 10 years ago. It didn't take long for it to get out of control, I had to stop! Gene

We used to start a new one every Sunday and someone finally got smart and got us to stick with one thread.
There are also a lot of the single week shows in the archives.
Enjoy. Looks like you've got some experience under your belt.

Some of the graphics on die cast cars can be easily removed by using a cotton swab and liquid debonder (available in craft shops) to rub them off. In most cases it does not harm the main paint color on the car. I used to find some 50's style cars that were loaded with things like wrestling graphics and were cheap because they did not sell well in the stores. I cleaned the graphics off and ended up with some nice looking cars for my collection and even sold some at toy shows.
You need to be careful removing the trim. When you take the car apart, see if the trim is pressed on to small holes in the body or glued on. In both cases carefully working the trim away from the body with a small sharp craft knife may be your best choice.

IMG_1780 (600x800).jpg One cabinet I get to keep in the house. There is much more stored in boxes in the garage waiting till we decide where we are moving to.

I worked with a guy that was the Tech Director for a large GTO club and somehow his '67 GTO was selected to be a Snap-On Tool diecast, and had a connection to the Hot August Nights event. We used to talk cars, he being a resto-mod type Pontiac guy and me an early Ford hot rodder.
I group of engineers came to his garage and photographed and took detailed, digitized measurements of the car and then some time later he received a prototype to critique. After sending in his recommendations a number of similar efforts happened until they got it right. Obviously the diecast was produced in Snap-On red just like their tool boxes, but there was a surprise in store, he received a case of '67 GTO's painted Signet Gold like his along with a reproduction of his license plate on them. Along with the specially painted ones he got to keep all the test shots too. Me being a car guy he gave one to me.

Here are a couple of different sizes from my collection. The large ramp truck is one of my favorites as is the Ford ragtop on the back. But there is also something special about all the little cars in the picture too!:)

  18. A guy I worked with brought his die-cast catalog to work and it showed my Texaco 32 delivery bank was worth $600 if it was primo and still in the box...it ain't and now Texaco has released another run of them. Might be worth 10 bucks now, eh?
