Here is a comparison shot showing what a difference 1/2 inch makes. The red one is chopped 3 1/2 ". The yellow is a 4"cut. Also on both these cars, the windshield post was leaned back instead of stretching the roof.
Didn't have the heart to chop mine and now that it's done I'm glad I didn't. I chopped my model a coupe 4" and it was hard to see out of.
Mine. 4.75in the back 5.25 in the front ..Leaned A pillar chop with no roof stretch Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
When they look this good, why bother.....especially if the body is a mint one. Don't get me wrong.....all the different chops look good, but so do they when unchopped.
I'm going with 2 inches. I think Brizio / United Pacific nailed it for me. I've seen this one in person and looked at lots of photos.
Here is my coupe at 3" In my opinion if you are going to chop a deuce five window this is the least you should do. If it's a Model A then 4-1/2" is the minimum . Here is a picture from my five window from the 60's / 70's with a 4" Chop I think it was Gene Winfield who said "if you are not going to chop the top at least 3" , don't bother" I have to agree. You should not have to wonder when you look at a car. Is it chopped?
The older I get the less it has to be chopped. When I was 21, my first 5w was chopped 5.5 inches and I wanted more, 30 years later I am happy with a slight chop of only 5 inches. At this rate I will own an unchopped car at the young age of 210.
Bought the body in '01 with. 3" chop, re-chopped it another 1 1/2", and now wish I'd gone to 5 - 5 1/2".
I know I am bringing up a super old thread here, but I think a very important question should have been asked and never was: How tall is everyone that has their top chopped and how much room do you have inside the car from head-to-roof? I’m 6’1” and have a channeled ‘32 that I have been going back and forth debating whether I want to raise the car back up, effectively “unchanneling” it, and chopping the roof, or just “unchanneling” it enough to make it comfortable for me to drive. My car seems to be channeled roughly 6” and it can be a bit uncomfortable to drive on long trips....
