Hot Rods Any one running straight pipes?

My roadster has never had anything but open headers on it. I've even been pulled over for speeding with them. No ticket for noise. The 96 in a 55 was expensive though...

Lake style headers which I can uncap; attached to straight pipes that route out the back. Cops seem to dig it...they give me the thumbs up.

 

I have straight pipes on three of mind. The ones on the Vette for over 40 years.

 

That sound alone makes all the work seem worth it all Dale, nice.

When I lived in Tuscon, AZ. back in 1980 I was driving my Merc. home with open
Pipes from the Garage & pulled right up to a Cop Car
He didn't even bat a eye, but I let him pull away first
Than I took off 327/300 hp
I never got a Ticket for Loud exhaust Only for Speeding
which you can Beat by taking the Driving Course,
which takes the Ticket of your Lic.

Been driving with these weed burners on for a few years

 

I never had an issue when I drove it either rock, in fact, dad claims we did a burn out in front of a cop leaving the pizza joint in it. I heard a cop take off in an F150 tonight on a call, that thing was as loud as many of our hot rods and customs!

 

My '59 Tbird has live lake pipes, no problems in CO. I've driven it all over without issues. It isn't any louder than a Harley or one of the local hillbilly pickups. In fact, they're uncapped now!

 

Just how much oil does that thing use on a trip around town?

stovebolt, fenton split manifold, and straight pipes 15+ years no issues

 

Over the years,did a few header sets with an with out muffs. My zoomys were a loud headake an fell a part faster then those with collectors. But zoomys do look great if done right. The muffs I use now must be fairly filled up,pretty loud now

Nailhead and straight pipes everyday...

 

Been running my 401 nailhead with straight pipes, Sanderson Headers, since 2002. Out the back of course, have won a few "Best Pipes" contests. Long trips (over 75 miles) I do wear ear plugs. Close to 5,000 miles a year, with not one complaint.

 

And I can positively identify you and @porknbeaner coming from about three blocks away lol.

Last time you rolled in under the cover of night I stopped Beaner from shutting the garage and said just wait he'll be here in like 7 minutes. lol next thing you know your driving threw the neighbors yard and parked lol

Anyone have a video of their Hot Rod running straight pipes?

 

Been running them on my flathead the past 3 years. Love the sound, only really loud on a long pull up a hill.

Too friggin loud. I even found Thrush Hush annoying on long trips 40 years ago and I don’t need to attract attention

 

Idling in the garage . . . nothing better than a snotty flathead with a big cam (unless it also has a blower!). LOL

 

When I was a teenager in the 60s I learned loud exhaust meant ticket. If you hung your foot in your car they screamed look at me I' doing something wrong give me a ticket. I think the small town I lived in balanced their books on loud exhaust fines.

 

The 51 has straight pipes the flatty sounds perfect with them.

 

I took the caps off the pipes when I bought the car, and threw them under the seat. They're still there.

 

What are mufflers? LOL.

My SBC equipped hiboy roadster has Patriot "roadster" headers (side pipes). They are 3.5" OD on the collectors and 26"extensions, with "Spiral Turbo" baffles in the extensions.
The large OD seems to deepen the tone and the baffles do dampen the sound some, but not quite as much as what I'd like, but so far no problems with the cops. Been considering the cone shaped, perforated baffles in the Speedway oval track catalog. They fit up in the collector just behind where the primary pipes merge with the point forward. Claim is little or no power loss as the total sq. in. of all the holes exceeds the sq. in. of the collector ID cross section.
In my younger years I had lots of cars with all sorts of loud pipes and numerous tickets to show for it. Now at 81, I don't really want them quite that loud, just a good deep toned rumble.

 

Now that would be non stop fun !
