Damn that had to have been a thrill drifting one of them racers threw the turns hopefully I will be finding out soon I'm getting ready to get back to work on one I have been putting together, do to some health BS I had to tend to the last couple years, things are good now so back to the cars.... I have been calling my car a bobtail speedster but it looks alot like these modifieds mostly the ones at the start of the thread.

Some of you fellas with "no frame table, how will I ever..."
Just take look at Rudestude's wooden work table. I had built a wooden table in my first shop to rebuild the famous Chet Carter Modified (out of San Jose)
That 'table' saw no less than 5 setups, from '32 Highboys thru Model A full fendered jobs.
My new shop commanded a heavy steel table/jig, but 'heavy timber' saw me thru the early times.

Way too many similarities to rule it out. Hot rods evolve, This one sure seems to have. I would vote same car whether I knew it was or not.

Be careful what you wish for. Unemployment is down to 15% ,a good paying job is$25/week, food and rent run 25% each . I met a man who lived in S.Cal during the late '30 who said if you had $.15 at the end of the week for a coke and hotdog you had a good week

 

I guess pedal to the metal was a form of escaping the realities perhaps and letting the good times roll. The smiles on the faces of these younguns were a glimpse into trying to pull happiness from the cruel realities of the times.

The clue in post #220 is the rear
radius rods/wishbones. It is the same car,with out a doubt.

I agree. He also used a narrowed 26-27 Roadster body not the front half of a Touring that most modifieds used. Bob

 

Modified on the street? This looks like it may have been one of the track roadsters of the mid thirties that ran at Southgate??

These yours? Fantastic photos and some of the most clear shots I have seen of the Pugh brothers (John & Rod) modified. Car was constantly setting the modified record getting upwards of 127mph in 1941. This did run the early southern Ascot events aka Southgate.

 

Yes these are my pictures. There is no writing on the back so I don't know anything about the car or the people in the pictures. Please add all you can about this car. Also you can share or do anything with the photos you want. I will try to get a real scan soon.

Any more pics of the Spasmodic car. I'm collecting parts to build a similar car. Have a 26 Chevy frame I think and a 26 t touring body as well as a Chevy parallel leaf front set up and a wavy dodge axle. Drivetrain will be model a.
