I need to follow my on advice too, so don't any of you get the idea that I think that I am, or that I am somehow above this. It has taken me 47-years to get the number of good things that I do in a day to eclipse the number of things that I do wrong. I am trying. Every day I reveal more of the big picture, only to discover that it is even yet still far bigger than I expected.

Life can be an humbling experience.

    Nothing.

  6. If that windshield is still good, you'd better cover it real well with all that welding and grinding going on. It will get peppered

Ok, now back to the program...... Can somebody please help me out on how I should repair the sheet metal that I ripped and cut out not thinking about how flimsy the fender wall is without the shock tower flange, so im going to try and work it back in but not sure what to do with the missing shit that I cut out so the hole in one area is now larger then the flange so it cant be welded back in. The largest area is near the 3 holes which is about 2in. Thanks with any help. photostudio_1484869166712.jpg photostudio_1484869429677.jpg

Are you planning on running fenderwell headers (go through these panels), or ones that go between the rails?

What type of welder do you have? If your good you might be able to stitch weld it back together. Paying very good attention to your heat. Or ya could cut some filler pieces out of the same gauge sheet metal for the really wide gaps.

I just have a small Lincoln pro 125, but im no pro, haha. It has the settings A,B,C and D with wire speed 1 -10. I have only welded on thick stuff with the 1/8 plate being the smallest, never done any sheet metal, at least not yet.

This is why I have been trying to find a good close up pic of a Comet or Falcon to see where abouts they dump out through.

I'd get the actual ones, before working the inner fenders.

  17. For sure!
It could get all patched up then cut and filled again.
Double job - great for practice but not so good for progress and budgets.

I did weld the back ends of the plating yet because I might just cut the sub frame out and weld in some tubing instead.

20170123_205108.jpg Another day out in the garage. Got the drivers side shock tower cut out and this time I left the flange spot welded to the inner fender well and just cut the tower itself out. Also got the other brackets, plates and the steering column and WHAT A BITCH, lol. Didnt have a steering wheel puller so I made a makeshift one out of C channel and a few bolts and 2 welded nuts, looks like shit but worked perfect. 20170123_133343.jpg 20170123_133402.jpg 20170123_133255.jpg

Just curious........ Has anyone, or know of anyone that when they built the motor mounts, or even kept the stock ones, ever made them so the motor sits a little higher the stock mounts do? Or not a good idea?

  29. Raising the engine could affect your transmission output shaft angle, which may/could affect how you obtain the correct pinion angle, which will affect overall driveshaft inclination.
    A domino affect.

If there's a reason to make it sit higher, you could. I kind of like keeping it all where it was originally, but I'm kind of weird.

Make sure it's straight (left to right), and the drive line angle is set right. The rest really isn't too picky,

you can set the driveline angle when you install the new rear end, if you're installing a new rear end
