Hey Rocketsled...with 500 cars you are going to find a few cars in your class that are within tenths of your time. That is what makes this so much fun.

The most fun I had at the Meltdown was in year 2 or 3 when I was running my black & white 55 against Smokey Moe's 55 Wagon and the Vaccarello 56 Chevy Super Stocker...every race was decided by a tenth or two and then I drove my 55 home when the day was done...

It isn't about how fast you go...it is about having fun and good heads up match racing.

That sounds like good fun. I'm just a little apprehensive about my car ,and me for that matter. Haven't had this snotty little witch down the track so have no real idea what to expect. Other than driving like shit. As for me I haven't been on strip since about '85.

I hope to have my car back together by spring. Furious has not seen life out side of the garage since Meltdown 2016. The trans puked and has stumped my trans mechanic and I, it is out for the second time and on the bench, hope to find something out soon.

If anyone one is driving around with one of those with a 351 would be a fool to not jump on that.

Those 400's are nothing but a stroker Cleveland.
Nobody gave em any respect cause they came stock with a 2V carb, gimpy little cam,and really wheezy heads with super low compression, but with a Cleveland intake, plenty of cam and carb, and a set of those delicious 4V Cleveland heads and a bit of compression, those motors work:)

And Bill,we definitely need to line up Honest Injun and the Shaker!
I have had this unhealthy obsession with your car since the first time I saw it.
I have no idea how you make every aspect of that car work so flawlessly. My hat is off to you!:)

    And James,
It is just a pleasure to hang out with you and your Buddies every year. After last year's wiring debacle,my Dad hasn't stopped talking to all his Buddies about "this Buddy of Scott's with this 409 car....we messed with the wiring for HOURS,and he had it figured out in ten minutes! This guy is THAT good!":)
And I am eternally grateful for all your help last year, and for all the kindness and words of encouragement you've shown us.sometimes I feel like there ain't nothin EVER gonna work out...And that's usually when I look up from under the car just in time to catch one of your well placed bits of sarcastic wit, followed by that big ok grin that's contagious...:)

Come to think of it,just about every single guy on this thread has in some way contributed in Dad and I being able to attend the Meltdown, make some passes, and have the time of our lives,in one way or another.
I just want to say thank you to all you guys. You know who you are.

    Scott

Well ive had my own issues , driveshaft, belts and a few other things. Adding 1k stall to the converter , hope it doesnt throw everything off in the rear with the harder hit. 1.43 60 ft right now.

You better bring plenty of gas lol for all the runs you plan on making Scott. Looking forward to lining up. We need a hamb group to go to sams , took the poncho in last year.

Dont know if I can save the 400, buddy is buying it for front axle than off to scrappers. Im getting the 9" out of it at least.

A run to Sam's is definitely a highlight!
And the truck 9" has this super-gnarly,nearly indestructible axle tubes that will require 3-1/4" U-bolts.They also have tough 31 spline axles, and brakes that are even bigger than the "Galaxie wagon" brakes used on the early Shelbys.
    They're a bargain.:)

And Rocketsled,is this going to be the year we finally meet up?:)
We've been talking about hanging out and running the cars for years now,and it just wasn't in the cards, for a variety of reasons.
This year, looks like we might get a shot at making some passes and having some laughs.:)

Yeah. I stopped by and talked breifly last year but you were up to your ass in alligators. Looked like salty and tickety had you covered so I split. We would make a great starting line pic. After that I wouldn't enjoy it as much as you. Maybe we both make mechanical diarrhea At least the Chevy guys have something to laugh at.

I remember seeing all of Scott's troubles last year, but I couldn't help because I was working the gate. Every once in a while I would check in and give him some words of encouragement like "you can do it scooter" and "follow the wire that shocks you"... I did have a second to take this picture though...
