I recently bought a vintage Sun tach & controller box that I would like to use on my project car. In the HAMB classified I seen an ad by Texas Retrosports for a circuit board conversion to eliminate the old battery style control. My question is, has anyone used this circuit board? It seems like a great alternative to the old (unavailable) battery style. Thanks for any info.
I never heard of Texas Retrosports. Williamson's and I'm sure others offer a solid state conversion if you send them the meter and transmitter.
The beauty of the Texas Retrosport conversion is that they send you the parts & you do the conversion yourself(looks simple, a couple screws & some soldering). When you live in Canada & ship anything to or from U.S. it costs a FORTUNE!!!!! Plus, I'd hate to lose my tach or controller or both while shipping. I'm pretty sure it was under $70.00 U.S.. What does Williamson's charge? Thanks
Texas Retrosport is also known as Brantingham Engineering in Garland Texas. To check it out do a search for Sun tach.
Thanks hightower611, that's the one. Looks pretty simple. Is there a way to check if the tach head is any good? I bought these at a swap & really don't know if it works anyway. When I opened the controller I noticed that the original battery is still in it. Kinda' fuzzy though I was thinking it would look really good in my Shoebox.
I have two other conversions that work great. I am sure they can do the same. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Sorry for the late response .mine are circuit boards that are attached to the tach on the inside. As far as I know the circuit boards are scratch built by the guys that are doing the conversions Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Thanks QSA46, The system I am looking at replaces the internals on the controller box ,eliminating the need for a battery to power the controller, which allows the car battery system to power the controller. I'm kinda surprised that no one on the HAMB has tried one of these.
Anyone know if Brantingham Engineering is still viable? I have called and left messages. They have a working website and voicemail, but despite my best efforts can't get ahold of them. I want to buy one of their Sun tach conversion boards. Ideas? Info?
I talked via E-mail to someone a couple years ago, he said that they did not have stock on these & that he would contact me when available again. Never heard another thing from him. Decided not to pursue this, maybe a scam?
Heard that Williamsons is kind of pricey. If I remember correctly their conversion is in the $150.00 range. Not sure about the price of the Texasretrosport circuit board but can't imagine it would cost that much and reslly like the idea of doing the conversion yourself. Keep us posted on which way your going to go.
G Man.....Williamsons is not pricey of your looking for quality work..Thank God they are doing this work.
