Looking for places to have my Chevy distributor modified to run in my 8BA Flathead. I know about Bubba's but if you do a search on them they really don't have good feedback. Are there good alternatives to them or do we just have to stand in line and wait until they work it in??? I am not interested in an electronic. Points and a condenser are fine with me.
I have heard nothing but good feedback about Bubba's. If it was negative, it was because he's buried with tons of work.

I have had direct experience with both "Bubba" and "CharlieNY". If you want a good conversion in a reasonable amount of time, it's "CharlieNY" hands down. If I understand correctly, "Bubba" has moved his operation to his home shop. I don't see how that can help turnaround.
Charlie did the carb and Bubba did the dizzy on the 8ba in my '39 p/u.. Completely satisfied with both. Your choice.
If you have an 8BA distributor and a Chevy distributor, plus a basic understanding of how to run a lathe, you can do it yourself. The flathead distributor is for measurements and to use the driven gear on the Chevy shaft. Or the distributors and a good friend with a lathe.
I don't own a lathe so that is why I am asking for a reliable builder that can turn this around in 4 to 6 weeks.
Also don't forget it is not just a matter or turning down the chev distributor in a lathe - the advance curve is very different on the flathead to the chev so the advance curve on the chev distributor should be recurved to flathead specs.
Good vibes for "Bubba" on my end. Fixed my crappy Mallory flathead distributor and in a timely manor.
If you're talking about a window type or a HEI, man they work but look uuuugggllllyyy on a fatahead. Best looking one is a Mallory type Y if you can find one.......opinion. -Phil

As said Bubba does quality work always. You just have to be patient. I would question poor feedback on work quality. He has many repeat customers.
You didn't ask Flatford, so I hope you don't mind the input, but I used a MSD distributor in my 8BA. It is electronic, which I know you are not into, but it starts easy, runs hard. MSD has black distributor caps now so they look much better. I wanted the electronic advance/retard from the MSD module to avoid detonation issues under boost and their stuff is pretty fool proof. They aren't cheap but compared to having yours customized, maybe not so bad. Looks like the GM unit you desire, you could always rough up the polished bits. Just an idea. Good luck either way.
OK I was contacted by Bubba's (which is fine and I appreciate it) he has a couple of dual point Mallory YL's available at a decent price. I am not educated on this distributor and wonder if it will work OK in my application. Pretty much a 4" stroke 8BA with original cam and to Holley 94's. Not building a race car. Just looking for reliability. Car is a 31 Ford roadster. Never had a dual point distributor in my life so not sure what to do here. Appreciate any comments on the situation. Thank you.
Basically, under periods of light load (high vacuum), the distributor provides additional advance which improves driveabilty and fuel economy.
