Technical Latham Superchargers: Info & Pictures

Just found a picture I took of a set that I would see at the swap meets in Arkansas in the mid 80's. I took this pic at the Memphis Motorsports in '89, though. If I remember, the price was 400-600. Every time I saw it, I wanted it as I had (still have) a '64 Pontiac convertible and the '64 Pontiac dream car X-400 had a Latham on it. But alas, it was too far out of reach for a college student.

 

Found this one on ebay NOT MINE and have nothing to do with it.

As promised here are details of 3 Latham superchargers I have. 1st is a Model 16-A Serial Number 001571.

 

2nd is a Model 24-C Serial Number 000590. I believe this has never been used before. It is immaculate. Mark. BTW all these are for sale if anyone is interested. I can ship internationally from Australia.

 

Lastly is a broken down old girl. Seized. No ID numbers anywhere. Mark

 

That Latham #590 is interesting. I was of the understanding that the Serial # started at 1000.
The last one is the newer style Latham manufactured by the new owner.
Mark do you have any of the carb mounting plenums or intake manifold mounts?

Hi. So the the 3rd supercharger, devoid of markings is from post 1982, when the company changed hands?

In this thread there is one with the serial number 0000001.

Do you have approximate manufacture dates for each of mine? I would appreciate it. Mark.

I will see if i have any other parts but i think i only have the superchargers with no boltons.

 

I thought maybe some of you Latham owners and/or enthusiasts might enjoy seeing this.

The supercharger that I posted earlier in the thread is going on our long term Packard project that is in final assembly. I made a cover for the alternator that matched the Latham supercharger.

That is pretty neat idea looks great.

 

Here is one that a friend has on a 56 BelAir 4 door hard top.

 

Brandon,is it noisy?

 

Not really. It has a "comfortable" whine to it. Not only does he have a Latham on the Chevy, he also has a 31 Ford roadster running a Pontiac flathead straight 8 with a Latham.

 

I've been wondering what the Latham was going to sound like when we finally get to fire our engine up.

Interesting use of a ford carb do you know why he used in in this case?

Any idea what engine this Latham intake was designed for? Possibly a MEL?

 

I've only seen one latham on the street a very stock looking black 1957 Ford 2 door wagon after he spanked me several times including a top end run. Broke my heart untill he opened his hood exposing a 4 carb Latham blown 430 lincoln. Some old dude about 30
I was 17 on a 1959 triumph bonneville in 1959

 

What did it sound like?Low end, top end?

 

I was about 90mph when he passed me what told me his top was about 50 mph over mine I had to believe him because couldn't see his brake lights when shut off. I was close to 120 mph and he was out of his car with his hood open when I got there lol

I have a Latham with the single inlet and a 4bbl adapter. There is no tag or serial number on it. It looks like the third one posted by Eastwester. I have everything but the lower pulley. Can anyone measure one of yours and pass on the measurement on to me??

Here is our initial fireup. Still needs some tuning.

Our Latham was a SBC setup. It came with an as cast unmachined crank pulley. I can measure that for you. Are you just looking for diameter? Also, we are super busy right now getting ready for GNRS, so if I forget, send me a message and remind me to get the measurement.

sounds GOOD.

 

Mine is the old style Latham not the newer style like the 3rd Eastwester one you referenced, and the lower pulley measures 9-1/4 inch

I had a moment this morning and remembered to measure. Ours is also the older one, and our unmachined pulley is just shy of 10 1/4"

Cretin: Looks and sounds great, that's the Latham whine I remember.
How about a picture or two of the carb setup?
Also looks like you are running a V-Belt? What are each pulley size and is yours approximately 6 times overdriven?
