Any suggestions on what size radials will fit on 1936 Ford wide five wheels (16x4)? I want to run wide whitewalls with smaller fronts and larger rears. Any suggestions, experience, pictures would be appreciated.
A buddy looked for those tires and ended up with dualie rear tires from some import truck - Izuzu? 195-75-R16 or something. They rode like a truck, he said.
The Coker radials have the bias look...anyone have any experience with these? Or better yet, pics of them on a car.
Generally speaking, the '36-39 Ford wheels are called "wide 5" in lieu of artillery.. The 36-39 Ford wheels are generally 16x4, there are a very few which were made for '36-48 Marmon Harrington 4x4's which are wider. I try to follow the tire manufactures spec's for tires/wheels when selecting tires. Modern 16" radials will generally require a 6" to 7" wide wheel, speciality tires like Cokers Classic's are made for a 4-5" wheel.. If you want to get creative with your tire sizes on a stock looking wheel, you will have to have specially made wheels, which can be pricey.. I have a 39 convertible coupe that is a "Resto-Mod" I wanted a stock look with stock hub caps and beauty rings. I wanted to use 60 series black wall radials on 15 x 7 wheels, had a terrible time finding someone to make the wheels for me. The common wheels all have outside hubcap knobs, or are smoothies, my hub caps required inside spring clips..
Blucar, Thanks for the clarification. Do you mind sharing who made your wheels. I'm considering this route as well considering there are so few option.
I would check with wheelsmith and see if they can use your centers and add the out rim to fit your needs. http://www.thewheelsmith.net/CustomWheels/VintageWheelsAccessories.html
