Technical Making steering arms

Does anyone have, or know where I can find, patterns for bolt-on lower flat plate steering arms? I've got a spring behind tube axle with 39 ford spindles on the 27 ford project and I want to make my own arms. I've got CCR's plans and there is a pattern in there but it requires welding to the spindle. I just want to bolt them on.
Sure I could buy some. But I've got all this material and tools and I like to fab my own.

I don't think cardboard steering arms will be strong enough

 

Get a Speedway Motors catalog and see how their's are made. Oh, they give dimensions too.
The hard part might be the 90* bends where they mount to the spindle.

 

I like to use cardstock as it cuts a bit more accurately than corrugated cardboard

 

Cut Flat plate steering arms look kinda cheesy. I suppose a talented guy could spiff them up some. What about the Free T bucket plans patterns? Do they weld on the spindles also?

Yes! Those tight 90* in heavy plate will be tough.

 

Get a 3/8" or 1/2" drop of angle iron from your local steel fabricating shop. Remove metal that does not look like steering arms. Drill holes. Install.

I'm using the Speedway flat steering arms on my coupe, they fit and look good . These are thicker and use ford tie rod ends, well made product, why reinvent the wheel. Steering arm made of angle iron won't work with regular tie rod ends, not thick enough for the taper, you can use Heim ends on them.

 

Weld a bung to the plate the needed difference, ream bung hole.
