Anti chatter...I take it that minimizes or prevents the shudder that happens when releasing the clutch from a start that if it happens shakes the crap out of everything? Sorry Jerry, I'm just assuming what do they do?...

 

Stogy..Ford used them on most of their early V8 flathead cars for that reason and also as engine steady rods, preventing the engine and trans from moving forward and/or backwards and your fan eating the radiator I'm the case of mount failure. This was the main purpose for them here in my chassis.


The old Hurst mounts I'm using have a long slot where they drop on the biscuits and not a hole. The rods will help keep the engine steady as a secondary support to the tightened motor mount bolts.

Believe it or not this happened years ago..Motor shifted from a loose mount and I trashed a radiator 3 hours away from home on the road. Not fun!

Jerry, are your plans to leave the lower panel semi-stationary when opening the hood? Or will it hinge outward from being mounted low by the frame rail?

I'm thinking 3 piece with semi- stationary side panels attached to the grill shell and cowl with quick release fasteners. The top will be lift off style after the latches are undone. I want to make something where the top comes off easily if I want to work on the top end of the engine.

Everything has been done so many times I want to try something sort of out of the box side cut wise but still looking decent and staying traditional.

We'll see ..it might go in the trash..who knows! Ha

When pulling the stock exhaust manifold off the head, a small chunk came off with the manifold exposing a bad repair that was done a long time ago. It probably worked back the day but Wasn't good enough to for me. The area was cleaned and prepped and the piece tig welded and blended in. The hole was drilled out improperly back in the day too so a helicoil was fitted.

Ho Ho Horsepower...had to say it...that is nostalgic art happening there......that garage has built in photo editing. Got that old photo look going real good.

 

Threw the body back on. Sits nice but will drop when springs settle and the rest of the weight is on it. I have 550-16s up front and 700-16s in the rear. Need to fit the doors then the knife comes out

I used a hole saw held in the steering mount with a piece of aluminum round stock to mark my hole. I sprayed some paint on the inside and marked my center hole. Looks like everything fits. Rod end and nut going into pitman arm is just for mock up to hold drag link on.

Got the top fully welded on today. Started fitting drip rails too. There was some cracking along body line under quarter windows that I also welded up

Looks great. Man you move fast.

 

4.5 inches coming out of back..4.75 out of A pillars..this a "rolling bones" style layout for the cut lines. Ken and Keith do their chops like this and I thought I'd give it a try. Cutting it this way eliminates relief cuts on the back of the roof near the crown. A seam gets moved to near the belt line and along side of the window openings on flat areas making for easier bodyworking

Are you SURE that you want to take 4.5 inches out? That's a lot. Mine is 3 and 3/4 front and 3.5 back. Not a lot of window to look out of.

4.5 out of the back and 4.75 out of the front and dropped her down. Have to lean the A pillars tomorrow and get stuff lined up but so far so good
