I'm guessing a piece of embalming equipment & you'll use it as an oil filter canister cover.

Steering box mount just about finished up. There's adjustment built into the mount to position the box so the steering can be dialed in. Also it can be adjusted up or down to compensate for seat position. Fully adjustable but rock solid when locked down.

I'm going to have to lengthen the shaft that attaches to the wheel about 6 inches.

Because the car is going to sit very low, we decided on mounting the rear wishbone end inside the frame on the rear rather than on the end of the axle in the stock location. This gives some more clearance

Here's something cool that Andy came up with that I thought was super clever for the lower shock mounts on the rear.

The lower mount is part of a front wishbone yoke. The recess where the spring perch would normally fit into is the perfect size for a shock stud. One half of the yoke was cut off then welded to the rear.

On the backside of the new lower mount the bottom part of an F-1 shock mount was cut off and used to mount the rear bones. You still with me?? Haha

Front half ...wishbone yoke for lower shock mounts

Back half-..mount for rear bones ends made from F-1 shock mount bottom that was cut off.

Front half and back half welded together then welded to rear.

In the pics these are just tacked together right now but you get the idea.

Tomorrow I'll be louvering the top insert that I made and the decklid skin. I got the decklid skin sanded down and started the layout. For laying out my centerlines on decklid skins I use a bent piece of 1/8 inch flat stock that I shaped to match the crown.

Got the inset louvered today. I still need to dress the edges with a file but I was tired and called it a day.

First I cut my lines. Hit the top with a DA sander, then smacked the louvers in with my fixture and a 5 lb sledge hammer. I'll post some pics of the louver setup.

The louver dies were made from the end of an early Ford torque tube. How's that for traditional. Haha. The pieces were trimmed and welded into a simple handheld fixture. I cut the 3 inch line, lower skin down over the 3 inch sheet metal guide, line the top part of the fixture up with the guide plate then go. I hit it light about 5 times to knock the metal into the lower die and seat the male die then give it hell about 5 more times.

After the first two rows you basically get the shits of it and want to go watch TV or drink a beer. I guess if it was easy everyone would be doing it. Ha

Wow, that's looks good, mad skills and patience Jerry, you gotta want it pretty bad considering the extra effort required for that "back in the day" look.
Now I wish I hadn't commented on your hood plans cuz I know whatever you do it will come out nice.

Great looking louvers, and thanks again for sharing your setup. Finished product looks great, and seeing the tools that get your there is an added bonus.

There's a Homemade Tools thread where I bet a lot of guys would love to see this, too. I've seen other, less repeatable setups and think yours would provide better, more consistent results.
