Very Awesome! I will be building both versions. The 23.5" will be placed in my 1938 Plymouth Truck. And I will build a 25 1/4" for my 1937 ME 32 1.5 Ton Truck. I really like the flathead six... A lot....

Most American car companies had interesting secrets in their R&D. Any person that can get their hands on this sort of stuff and put it to use is very fortunate. I have been privileged to put my hands on some neat stuff from Chrysler, but none of it was for sale... Boo!

[IMG] '62 Impala 235. Just got it started after taking all year to swap that intake and exhaust on. Time is expensive. Anyone have a helpful suggestion as to where to set the timing? It idles and revs well but I'd like to know how to account for the extra fuel and air once I'm on the road. I can't drive it until Monday. Thanks, folks.

My experience is that 235's like 6-8 degrees with a stock cam... 8-10 with a bigger cam. Stock compression (848 head), regular unleded and using the Octane Slecter. Make several test runs up a stiff hill, listen for pinging. Carry a 1/2 wrench with you, tune on the fly! Back it off a couple degrees if it struggles to start HOT. Gotta LOVE the Slector! :)

    Thank you for explaining that.
I've heard rumors about Hall-Scott building motors for Ford in the past, but always shluffed them off as BS. I mean, at that time, the Rouge River plant was the largest in the world. Why would they need someone else to make engines for them...didn't make sense...anyway, I was also trying to figure out why the 226 was touted as Ford first inline six, when this thing apparently existed 14 years prior.
All makes sense now. That's a cool story. Thanks for showing us and telling it, $um Fun. -b

Still thinking about the T-6. Hall Scott was in Oakland/Brekeley, Sum Fun is in Northern Cal, and the first T in the thread below was at Lake Merit in Oakland in the '50s.. Some good reading.

    Aussie,
Cool pics. What's the black thing next to the carb in the engine picture? Looks like some kind of filter housing.

...and just like that The HAMB becomes The Fordson Fan Site.

  16. Umm...don't be an idjit. This is the HAMB, for traditional-styled rods and customs, and the boss has stated several times over the years that it is for '65 and earlier cars, builds, etc. To quote Ryan, "no foreign cars, no muscle cars, and no pony cars." With very few exceptions, sanctioned by the Moderators, that's what we're working under. Every few years people try to reinvent the HAMB to suit their particular peccadillo's (has anyone else noticed how many Centerline wheels are on cars posed recently?) and Ryan has to do a purge to remind folk of what we're here for. A late-model Benz six, no matter how cool it is, doesn't belong on the HAMB and you should consider removing it.

Do the patriot headers for the Ford 223 inline 6 work with the stock intake manifold? My exhaust manifold is cracked and I've been unable to find a replacement stock one.

While not a hotrod per say, my daily driver f1 is powered by a 200 online.

I modified a header for it and put flattop 0.030 pistons in it, and had comp cams make me a custom high performance cam for it. Stock carb and ignition. It has to run on high octane gas but it does run well considering it is a 4x4 truck that I frequently haul my bands pa equipment in and my drums....

If I put it in a lighter vehicle it would really scoot.

...just think if you'd had put all those speed parts in a 250.
Nice rig, though....fellow 4X nut, fellow drummer. -b

    Thanks,

Actually i picked up a 250 and was going to build it up.... But the oil pan was way different from the 200 and really interfered with the front diff with no fix except lifting the truck up higher to clear which I did not want to do. So I sold the 250 for what I paid for it.....

In fact I even modified the 200 oil pan to give a tiny bit more clearance to build the truck as low as I could and not have to worry about the diff ever kissing the oil pan.

Not sure on flattop pistons for the 250. I had a tough tome getting these, I had to have them shipped from Australia. I really could have built up a v8 cheaper than this engine but wouldn't get 17+ mpg living in the mountains.
