Looking at the first photos in the thread I am reminded of early "Bomber" stock cars. Torch cut and stick welded. I used to build like that back in the 60-s. Scary stuff. Makes you think what exactly is a survivor and why anyone would want to save it. Joe
It killed me to push the sedan outside this spring. I purchased a 40' shipping container to store it in while I got some other things off my plate. Shipped my son off to college this fall and finally got myself back in a position to push it Back in the garage. Past week or so I've been "re learning" some essentials. Measuring and measuring everything over and over before things get set in place. Runnin the 8ba so I want to make sure my fan is in the right place for the radiator. There's a couple of threads on here where guys built their tranny mount right off the stock center X-member- I think "Pete" did it in his coupe build for the "Race of Gentlemen", Fall of 2015. And "Wheeldog57"--"Something from nothing Roadster" Keep bangin' away! ( and DON'T use Tardel's book for motor mount location!! at least the older edition- WRONG!)

I made some original measurements using the book and nothing made sense so I set the motor and trans in place to know exactly where I need to be. Much more comforting seeing it mocked up than going off pages in the book. I have a F-1 crossmember I picked up and the pedal assy I plan on running. I may add some additional braces to create my own K member. I picked up (free) a nice set of A rails (front horns cut off) I'm going to use for the stock to complete it. removed rear crossmember this afternoon after getting the frame up on 4 leveled stands. Welded it up and added the supports I made from the rolled edge of a frame rail I had. Did some work on the tops of the front horns also, someone at some point notched them for one thing or another. Tops are good but now onto the bottom side. used my grandfathers old molding profile scribe. Worked great to get the profile correct Done for tonight ... headed to NJ for the next 4 days. Spent some time on the sedan this Afternoon. Finished up repairing the front horns Got the motor mounts where I was happy with them. Placement of them puts my fan roughly 1-1/4" away from the radiator when everything is bolted down. Next step I had to rework the F1 crossmember. Made the mistake of notching the crossmember measuring from the bottom up to fit inside the rails. It was clear I should've measured from the top down. So I cleaned it up rewelded the pieces I removed then made everything fit nice and snug. my screw up. cut out a pie wedge and hammered and welded the lower edge to follow the contour of the crossmember. Really happy with the final fit, going to get it cleaned up before I weld it in place. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

Thanks Pat. I really wanted it to look factory and have the tabs folded inside the rail to allow me to rivet or bolt them as well as have plenty of surface to weld. Once I plate the frame it will all tie in perfectly. I'm a stickler for details and making things right. I was mad at myself for making the initial mistake but I'll clean it up and no one ever see it once it's done.
