Features Who's Building a T?

I just got the gas tank back from Matt doing the pinstriping and 'nose art' and wanted to share it with you.

 

Pulled mine apart for finish work after a 1000 miles of test drives, nothing broke or fell off.JW

 

A little more eyecandy, I just mocked up the rear.

 

Here's the body, almost ready for paint and I found a pic of what I started with.

Getting further along, body almost ready for paint and I set it back on the frame to finish up some thing on it. I machined the windshield posts for the mirrors an d adding the conduits to the headlights when I took these shots.

 

I used the same mirrors.
Mine is now down to bare chassis for welding and a tidy up from previous owners less than satisfactory work. hope to paint it in a week or so then start piecing it back together. JW

 

Its looking like a major rebuild JW

 

I guess it is but its the first time I have had the body off since I got it. This shot is taken 12 months ago just before I started it up and drove it. Its in much the same spot as the above pic. JW

I am a bit behind you guys but i will be there.
Its now 3 years ago i started to build mine plus/minus some days.
This is where i started.

 

I bought this 50's survivor RPU body from 3W Larry about a year ago. I haven't really done anything with it yet. I did recently pick up set of '32 Ford rails.

Not building just upgrading.

I have changed the front beam on my Center Door "T". (Picture)
When I rebuilt the "T" for the third time way back in the mid 1990's I used a beam axle that I could then afford.
Well I never liked it , it was too wide and the spring perches had to be welded into position etc, etc.
I have had the new stuff to change it for about seven or eight years, but never got around to it, always building other vehicles. But after I got my COE truck on the road I promised myself that I would now give my beloved Center Door the attention which it deserved.

I have now stripped out the rear suspension which required some re chroming and new oil seals. Hopefully I'll be back on the road in the new year. Can't wait to be driving it around again as its so much fun.

 

It's only metal and there is only one way to learn.

More of a reskinning of the Tub with building the doors and box all new.

 

Working on the grille inserts. Need a little more work, but how perfect is period correct for late 40s, early 50s look?

 

Slowly gaining, ADD and dwindling motivation are impeding progress. I really need to keep pushing on if it's going to be done by May.

 

I'm in the early stages of putting a '27 roadster body on a '31 frame. Here it is just off the trailer on the first day and a more recent pic with it pulled apart and in my basement/shop...

The radiator shell and Duvall-type windshield totally transform the car's appearance. It's a good look.

But the pickup bed doesn't fit with that style at all, in my opinion. A homemade boat tail rear or even a stock turtle would look much better with those other parts than the pickup bed.

Just trying to help, really.

 

This was just a pile of crap that I should have walked away from, made up from spare parts and junk, and wasn't supposed to go this far. Too late to change now, so the box is staying. I was going to build it as a modified but I would have ended up with a 90" wheelbase and wanted a little more for stability on the interstate. Plus, to use it at all to travel, at least I can take a couple of overnight bags with me.

 

Yip, Pick em Ups are handy for sure. JW
