I have never done a build thread before. The progress on this one will be slow, I'm sure. I never thought I would be able to get an early Ford, but it happened.

I picked up this decent 39 deluxe for a good deal. Just got it home a few weeks ago.

Wow, that '39 looks like a really nice car. '39 Tudor Deluxe is one of the cars I would like to build someday. What are your plans for it?

It has no drive train, but came with a drop axle in it. Some new parts (lenses etc.) and a Bronco nine inch.
I'm planning a TCI parallel leaf kit for the nine. I have the running smallblock from my 57 that I'll put in. Seat are roached, so I took the opportunity to paint the floor.

My Avatar is a '40 Std Tudor my Dad bought in early '65 and will pass on to one of my kids. Very similar to yours. I had a '39 DeLuxe Coupe in High School. I always loved the banjo steering wheel and the crank out windshield. Got a stroker flatty in mine tho. Also have had two '40 Ford pickups over the years. '39-'40 cars and '40-'41 pickups hold a special place in my heart! Have always had one around me since I was 10 years old. Crap! That's 52 years now!

No, Sir. Some minor damage in the grille area.

I do like it. I'm toying with waxing it, but we'll see.

On further inspection of the maroon, I think I need to just paint everything black.

Has anyone ever tried mounting a th350 without splitting the bones? It looks like the split is going to have to happen.

Very cool car. My very first car was a 39 DeLuxe tudor, bone stock. What is that y shaped gizmo with can on the upper part of the firewall? Don't remember that on my 39....

Will do. I'm about 98% sure I'm not going to run it.

I thought it was grey until I buffed a bit of it. It's actually green.
No plans to repaint. Just a buff and wax.

It's funny. I love seeing flatheads in other people's cars, but they just don't do it for me like an ohv.
    Time will tell.

I'm doing some more cleaning and crud removal. Its warm enough out here to paint the firewall and inner fenders now.
But then I found this where the firewall meets the toekick area. Its on driver and passenger sides. I guess I'll just braze it up, but is this common?

It is not uncommon to find cracks in old cars. The body mounts get old and the roads they traveled weren't the best and the frames had some designed flex in them.

  29. California cars just don't rust. That's unheard of here.
    Anxiously awaiting the paint resurrection.

  30. I would drill the end of the crack so the crack can't go any further, wire wheel it so it's clean bare metal and weld it up.
