Has anyone installed a 6 volt positive ground pertronix in their 1955 Ford car? Has anyone installed a 6 volt positive ground with a 57 Ford or later distributor? How much trouble did you have? Remember it's a 57 later distributor and 6 volt positive ground. DJP
I thought after 56 they were 12 volt negative ground Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Installed Pertronix 6V pos gnd in a '51. No trouble at all. Are you asking whether the distributor cares about polarity? If so, the answer is NO.
I think that you are a little Confused a 55 is 6 volt But NOT Positive Ground I Built a 55 T-Bird with a Ford 427 & changed it to a 12 volt and Standard Shift.! just my 3.5 cents or when the Cows come Home.!
1955 Fords were the last year for 6 volt positive ground. All fords up to that year were 6 volt positive ground. In 1956 they finally became 12 volt. I have a 6 volt positive grd with a later dist. I guess that the confusion here.
Im not trying to be a smart a**, but why not make it 12 volt neg ground? This is what I did on my 40. I use pertronix and it works great. I did encounter one problem, when it had real wire plug wires in the stock loom it failed. I spoke with the pertronix guy and he told me to use suppression wires and that cured the problem.
It is important that you get the right polarity on your PerTronix Ignitor kit 6 v positive and negative ground are DIFFERENT kits
