Ron Pellegrini, whose Chicago-based company, Fiberglass Ltd., was the first to mass-produce fiberglass-replica bodies in the earliest days of the class, got it all started with this car, the Super Mustang, which was the sport's first true fiberglass-bodied Funny Car. Noting the great lengths to which Chrysler was going with its altered wheelbase cars, Pellegrini tried to convince Ford bosses that they needed to build a tube-chassis car with an all-fiberglass body.
Ford eventually passed on the idea, but that didn’t stop Pellegrini, who took a brand-new Mustang to a local fiberglass shop where, by chance, former schoolmate Chuck Veseley was working. They hadn't seen each other in a dozen years, but before long, Pellegrini had drafted his former chum to build the first mold in his home garage. Pellegrini bought the Dennison, Arlasky, and Knox fuel roadster and tucked it beneath their fiberglass Ford shell, and the Super Mustang was created.

Tim Baker driver, Harry Baker Motors, after Indy, GC #5 was sold at the end of the season, unneeded since the team made use of both an acid-dipped 1965 body and the 1965 altered wheelbase factory mule. The car was modified for match-racing by early 1966. Golden Commandos 1964 Hemi Harry Baker Motors Dealership 1966

The Ramchargers likewise sold their 1964 cars to make room for their 1965 altered. The car went to Eddie Smith, who had the Alexander Brothers custom shop near Detroit convert it. It is seen here in a newspaper story circa 1967, doing the job! 010 1964 Ramchargers A/FX Converted 1965 Awb Eddie Smith 1967.

A short shot of FORDS after all those chevies.

Bill Ireland A/FX Bill Ireland ran this A/FX Mustang as the Trojan Horse during the 1966 season. Originally packing a S.O.H.C. 427, Ireland campaigned it with wedge power. This was Gas Ronda's former car

If these two A/FX Mustangs look similar it's because they are the same car. Hubert Platt took over driving duties from Dick Brannan after he hung up his helmet midway through 1966.

Les Ritchey's 1965 A/FX Mustang was campaigned once again in 1966 with injection and a new candy apple red paint job.

    Whew that felt good.

    Back to the chevies later.

Good stuff I really like finding out the history to go with the photos. You have to forgive us old guys our memory isn't as good as it was LOL. He probably never bumped his head on the window frame or he would remember the car.

Put these big to join the crowd in here.

More mopars coming up after the chevies are finished in a couple more batches.

Was there ever a cooler car to build an AWB than a Chevy 2.
