Well it's not a Sunbeam production car. But I believe it was run as the Sunbeam Golden Arrow. Sponsorship. Napier Lyon three bank 12 cylinder engine, I think.

I believe you and I'd be an idiot to argue about something I just learned about 2 hrs ago but everything I've been reading this evening refers to the car as the "Irving Napier Golden Arrow".
Amazing it still exists and it looks to be a beast!
And the toy was made by Kingsbury Toys. Thanks for your lead on the name of the car.
Dad wasn't born until '36 so I'm thinking it must have been a hand me down toy from another kid in Hollydale?

Well cranky old chevy dude no captain crunch today? Trying again to post the FACTS about bone stock off the showroom floor cars and you can read and weep as these contemporary era cars are very close in times and the T bird had FOUR UP. You keep forgetting to add to all your stuff "IN MY OPINION" and here on the HAMB differing opinions are allowed. So why don't you take your cantankerous, continuing, confrontational, claptrap over to bowtiesareus.com where they might agree with your OPINIONS and let us enjoy this thread and our own opinions.

    for your reading pleasure...............

I don't need to rely on Motor Trend for my "facts." as I said:
"Well a '63 T-Bird with the 300HP 390 was good for a 16.6 sec quarter mile and with the 340HP version was 16.2. I submit that the Hemi and Wedge Mopars were significantly faster. Our professionally built '62 ImpalaSS 409 was doing in the 13's and we would get stomped by the Mopars a lot of the time. There were no 390's even close. The Ford guys were running 406's at that time."

That info is not my opinion. Those are real times from actually being there and running at Pomona and Lions. In no way was a 426 Hemi or a Wedge for that matter even in the same league with a '63 390 T-Bird as was stated in the original post. You can enjoy your illusions if you like, but the numbers don't lie..

You keep talking about prepared race cars not the subject at hand stock off the showroom floor cars driven by mag writers two different animals. Drag race results vary by MANY factors including but not limited to who built the engine, who is driving, what tire choice weather and track etc etc. I guess you didn't bother to actually you know read the articles.

Here is my 1967 390 in 1968 if you look real close you can see the class winner sticker on the vent window guess all the chevies and one GTO I beat would be embarrassed to be beaten by a boat anchor right. We both can post many different examples of RACE cars but there are many threads about that already

It's major Henry Segrave's land speed record car "the Golden Arrow".
He ran 231.45 mph in it on Daytona Beach in March of 1929 making a new land speed record then.
It's powered by 24 liter Napier Lion aero engine, which was designed for Supermarine fighter.
The engine was water cooled but in this car the water was circulated via ice chests located in the tanks between the wheels for efficient cooling during the run...

To classify an entire group of engines as "boat anchors'' is such a generalization, it's more wrong than right. Case in point. 1965 425 HP 396 BBC. A base 396 would have 325 HP. Most did. One of my pals back when had a quick car. Walked on a few SS Chevelles and said "they aint much''. Till someone showed him up. So many combos of transmissions, rear gears, engines, and weight adding options were available.

You very well may be correct. I wasn't there when it ran. I'm old, but not that old. Whatever, it was a really cool car.

This is sorta mildly offensive, Tennessee in the Late 50's had a lotta non-PC signs, that today would result in picket lines and rock throwing.

  25. My 1964 Chevy S/S 327/300 4speed posi rear. Black on Black tinted glass and the optional steering wheel that not too many people knew about at the time. When I went to the dealer "Redman Chevrolet" Stamford CT. I liked the car but hated the stock steering wheel. The salesman who was a friend of my Dads said he thought he had seen something about an optional steering wheel. Anyway it looked like a Vette steering wheel:cool:. The Car cost me $2,900 out the door. Oh and Wire Wheel Covers! Picture in 1964 at Stamford High School. 64chev.jpg

Something looks fishy about that mini bike frame and rear shocks/(swing arm?) . Looks like the front will break pretty easy. No down tube...
