I started in this hobby with a 65 chevy long bed with a 292 in 1974, (actually there was a 1952 Jeep wagon that never the city limits). I was in Nevada working for a small town newspaper and with that truck I moved to California to start college and my photojournalism degree. Eventually moved back to Nevada, got married and in 1981 bought my 41 Ford pickup. With white spoke trucker rims with G78 tires and a 53 flathead I drove it until a move back to California. It sat in the in-law back yard until I finally drug it to So Cal. Joined the Forties Limited who were the influence for 40 Fords at the time. When I finally started working on it, I did what I was told: rip out the straight axle and drive line and go 'modern'. It was all tore apart and the pieces followed me from a apartment side yard to a real garage where a independent front parallel rear springs and a nine inch were sorta hung. Another moved and the pieces followed. A slow build continued until the leukemia showed up. The build ramped up as much as energy and money allowed and I finally got to drive the beast just before heading to the hospital. But luck shined on my bearded face and I came home and I started to drive the damn thing until the wheels came off. and I parked it in the back, 30,000 miles with trips to Bonneville, Lone Star, Paso and more. I will never get rid of it, but it is time to get it driving again.
I remember the coupe with that very nice SBC. It was an old Comp Eliminator engine or similar if I recall? Sounded really nice and seemed to have a very high rev limit. The nice thing about our old cars is the memories and the paths they lead us down.
We are basically complete strangers, yet, somehow, I've been waiting to see this particular thread for awhile now. I can't wait to see the 38's next awakening.
It was always one of my favorites...I was excited to see it in the flesh at Atomic HQ. So glad it's getting finished (again). ...and yes someone's gotta post the video of it 'pulling out'.......
Looking forward to seeing the progress with the Coupe. I took a picture of it in Wichita back at KKOA's 20th anniversary. It was the lowest coupe that I had ever seen. It will be kool to see it running around again.
Ryan, I've always dug the look and style of your '38. Glad to see it move towards the traditional (when it did) and I'm wicked curious as to what's gonna change. My guess is the blown Y-block. Can't wait to see it. And thanks for re-lighting the fire to finish my '36 5-W and get the '39 Dodge back on the road.
Looking forward to this - I hope you keep the same stance? I've admired the pictures you have posted of it over the years.
