OK, I like the cab over conversion in the first post but the one in post 24... that's just a bit too much ugly to be cool. The truck in post 25, the racks look to be made out of wood, looks a bit "shaky" to me. If you got paid by the car the guy hauling Crosleys was doing well, that's wild, 2 across. Didn't they have any height/ width restrictions back then?

  3. Regarding post # 10. Can't you just hear the conversation between the customer and the salesman now ..... "just how long is it gonna take for my '56 Chevy to get here ? You told me 4 weeks! "

  4. Side to side motion had to play hell with the sides of those upper deck Crosleys.

  5. Even if you don't give a hoot about cars, that pic is worth its weight in gold. Beautiful setting !

The fuel mileage could not have been very good with that thing.

  10. It raises a number of questions. For example, the steering: With the cab up that high, I imagine the space under it carried an auto too - so how did they route the steering? Was it all hydraulic? I can tell you from personal experience that hydraulic steering is imprecise and offers ZERO road feedback.

On the other hand, while visibility was above average, it must have been a chore getting up there to squeegee off the windshield, or adjust the mirrors.

  13. The only one I could come p with - after reading "none had titles" - is that a load had been hijacked by locals, and then left undiscovered after the nefarious creature was nabbed for a different, unrelated crime...

I'd think this would be a little top-heavy going around a corner! k-bigpic.jpg

  20. Danny - Absolutely NO faux pas on your part ... I was simply pointing out some OLD threads that had some cool pics of Vintage Car Carriers.
