Folks Of Interest Hamb Member Emeritus

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Sep 16, 2016.

  1. This is a term that has been used to honor people.

A loose interpretation is people that are no longer activate, retired or deceased but their presence and contributions are still with us.

I was thinking a dedicated thread to the Emeritus Members that are gone but have left a indelible mark on the Hamb and it's members.

Naturally 3wLarry (Larry Roller) is the most recent member anointed with the title.

I think this is supposed to be a serious thread.

Let's not forget Jim Leis (blown49). For those whom met him he fits this mold.
    Great guy and very caring.
Wish I had close up picture of him.

Daddy-O was last on the HAMB on Wednesday at 2:02 PM. Are you saying that something happened to him?

I suspect that we've lost more old time members that we realize. Consider how many are/were active on here, but not particularly close to any HAMBers in real life, it would be easy to slip away with no one noticing. I think this list could get much bigger.

Larry certainly deserves this elite status. He was to levity, sincerity, and humor backed up by street-smart clear headedness as C9 was to story telling. Irreplaceable, but not forgotten. Great idea Danny.

Jon, (Shorty) only had five posts here, but was well known on the New Zealand Hot Rod forum, as Ratbag.
He sure could be a Ratbag. Gritty, straight up, hard case, and a sense of humor that would have you in stiches.
Jon had done much in his life, and we knew a lot of the same people, and although I never met him, face to face, we had become good friends.
    IMG_20160917_082033.png

He also crewed for a local dragracer, Karen Hay.
He imported several Hot Rods, and owned a Model A RPU when he passed.

    I sure do miss him.

A couple of people who spring right to my mind are Moby and Pontiac Slim.
Pontiac Slim for his wickedly cool/badass Poncho powered Model A coupe...coupled with that great Maine, never say die attitude, and lesser known Moby, just for being a new Hamb friend for a week or so before his passing.
I was chatting with Moby one morning about our T's and stuff when he mentioned he was taking his wife out to dinner that evening for the first run of the season.
I didn't hear back from him later and went on to find out that both he and his wife were killed in a rollover accident just after leaving the restaurant.

Really drove home how fragile life is.
Miss your posts and conversation guys.

Sadness is what I feel, when I see the names of fallen, but I also am reminded of sweet times. Those are the thoughts I keep forever.

  26. Like you Fred,it is sad knowing all the names had faces and they all helped to made the hamb the great community it is now.

One name on the list was my best friend for many years,Randy Nash and he is the responsible party that introduced me to the hamb.

These guys did leave a wealth of information that is as relevant and helpful today as when they posted it.HRP

“Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee.”
John Donne, Meditation XVII - Meditation 17

I don't know if John Donne was thinking about the HAMB when he wrote this, but his words couldn't be more true. We are such a small community that when we lose any of our little family, we are diminished exponentially.
