Jason, it looks familiar and maybe a Vette junkyard (For lack of a better term) that was in the upper Northwest, maybe Washington state. It was somewhat active back in the 70s but has since been liquidated. I saved an article on it years ago but it has been years since I ran across the article. My memory is sometimes hard to find as well.

Paragon which is local to me had a junkyard as well but the cars were not so nice (they may have a few bits and pieces left but the prices are up there). They did a pretty nice job of resurrecting a 58 Vette from their junkyard. Dennis Tracy (Tracy Performance) has a similar yard but he is very proud of most of it and the prices reflect it. I still buy an occasional part from him and sometimes he is more than fair-on other occasions I figure I will have to make my own part. There was another one in New York state that I had heard of (maybe around Buffalo) but I have no idea how many cars were there. I recently saw an ad for a liquidation of some body parts from that area and that may have been the remnants.

The chop top car is interesting. I have seen it before. I thought I was the only nut to own a chop top Vette.

I am piecing together a couple of old Vettes (taking a lunch break from making a mold of a 1960 cowl that I need for my latest project-an absolute mess) and could use some of the parts from such a treasure trove of parts. I would like to see some of those cars today or at least know what happened to them.

Well, its not an airbox car then, they didn't come out till '57. Most of the '57s that had the dogdish hubcaps had the big brakes and were "airbox" cars. Think they made something like 40 of them??

He was running a local hillclimb event. At lunch they had charity rides, cost me a $50 donation to Juvenile Diabetes to run up the hill. Best money I've spent in a while.

Loudbang that is Earl Wade holding the trophy in front of Reggie Nelson's C/SP Corvette at the 62 Winternats. According to Bert Brown who owns the 61 Vette that won class at the same race and beat Hayden Proffitt in the street eliminator quarter finals he says he is not sure why Wade is holding the trophy as he was only the tuner. According to Bert it may have been a promotional deal. Not only did Wade tune that winner and Bert's B/SP car (Nicholson/Wade/Grassman/Osterman entry) but he also tuned and drove Mike Lenke's stock 62 fuelie A/SP Corvette to a class win and then all the way to winning street eliminator.

Keep in mind that Mazmanian had a great day with his CM/SP 61 as well so we know of at least 4 early Vettes winning class and running strong through street eliminator. A fifth Vette a 57 owned by Dick Taylor ran strong in CM/SP but came up short against Mazmanian's Vette. If you liked early Vettes it would have been a good day to attend.

Jason, although I enjoy several forms of motorsport I would have to say nostalgia/vintage drag racing is right up there. That being said, that black and silver 58 surely looks like something that may be a hoot to drive and own. The only thing I would change would be to some old school knockoffs.
