  1. I agree the build is the most fun! looking good just remember the bracing for the body. I have been working on a bomber bench seat for my Plymouth build coming out nice. Looking forward to following your build. Hobo Jim

    Wow!
    Really fast moves again!
I dont know is there any other reinforcements on the convertible or Victoria frames than the X,but i think making one could do the trick.Keep it up!

Thanks guys! Yes im going to build an X on the frame what i can find that is the only reinforcments on the convertible frames? For the body theres going to be an form of X above the rear wheelhouses and it will go inside the backpanels to the former B pillors, in the front fenders will be welded to the body to smooth out things and i belive that will do some too atleast when doors are open.... If anybody knows exactley what reinforcements the original convertibles have please enlight me i find nothing in the green bible or google just frames.

Little update, have welded all day long, made a support bar between the rear wheelhouse that both stabilise the body and attetches to the catwalk area, made brackets on both sides where the carson top/convertible top is going to rest and made a lip on the catwalk.
The first pictures is when i stretched out the body before i made the support some things did not line up so i welded a big twing to the catwalk and spread the body some.

Welded some more and made some templates to see if rear windows and the roof flow is ok.

The convertible frame started life as a sedan frame with the X added. The other thing that most people don't realize is that the bottom of each rail had a length of plate stock welded to it. It's prob 1/4". My cars at the shop so I can't measure it right now.

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg This is the windshield frame of Octavio's Tudor turned vert that he and Rob Radcliffe have been building. Reshaping and squaring the A pillars makes a major difference in the end. I like what your doing!

Thanks Eric for solid info and great pics of the window frame, i have been thinking of reshaping it, its only spot welded togheter now so i think i take it apart again looks better in the end like you said when the a pillars are leaning slight inwards. About the frame i think i will do more like a K on the frame and when i do a kickup on the rear frame i will weld it togheter in the top for added support too. The frames feels pretty strong when driving around a little with just my temporary support inside the body there is no flex in the body or movement now.

Did stripp all paint on the window frame and did small relief cuts in the corners to get it a little tighter and welded up think the base shape is good, now i just got to get it to look like a convertible window frame....

    Hello FINN and DL,
Here is an article I did on Carson Tops back in the early days.
You might like the ideas and build process.

I am not building a carson top,but that article is interesting. Thanks for sharing it!

Nope,i havent touch it for awhile.I got frustrated because of the shitty weather,it always rained when i was off the work.I've been building bike parts instead.Well,i am back on the day shift,so i think there's good chance to get something done for the shoebox soon.
