I hope it is Roths truck. I do also lament that nearly all the original paint is gone. A recreation is better than nothing....if it's the real truck....it's the real truck. That Packard engine is a pretty engine...looks alot like an early Cad...wonder why more werent used. Ive met Dave Shuten....he has been to my house to buy stuff years ago...I think it was before the Orbitron resto. I'm sure if he and GAS say it's real....it is. But why not just share those exact reasons with us? I found his post off putting...why not just say...we have pictures...serial numbers...papers...whatever proof. That way the crying baby of doubt gets put to bed and we can all enjoy the resurrection of yet another piece of the segment of history we love most. I personally have a hard time reconciling the present truck with Roths.....but I'm pulling that it's real.

Well if you were building five cars at a time by yourself and then sometime in between all that decided to check the hamb and the post you find on one of your projects is pages of people saying your full of shit do you really think he'd take the time to post all the details? Not likely.

He wasn't even rude he just said there wouldn't be a build thread

Hmm all things aside I think it kicks ass that Ed's truck was found and I get to see it sometime. Fuck yeah!

Tim...it would have taken him about the same time to post details as to post what he did. If youre satisfied...good! Im even inclined to believe it is because of the people involved....my point is not about arguing with anyone whether it is Roths truck or aint.

My grandfather loved all of Roth's stuff and I grew up loving all of his work. I'm excited I will see what the shop truck looked like in real life in physical form no matter if it's a resto/resurrection/clone etc.

I don't know Aaron Kahan personally, but from all his work and posts and the things he has seen and done, his word is good enough for me. Galpin has done some amazing cars and isn't some dinky shop just screwing around. They fully believe they have Ed's old truck and that doesn't bother me at all.

I can't wait to see it finished, and I'm hoping there are some good in progress pics when it finally hits The Rodders Journal (because it should be featured there first)

Ya'll probably didn't believe that the orbitron was being used as a dumpster outside a Mexican porn shop either...

Pretty sure that's Roth's old truck with a fake grill.

I always find the history of old customs interesting and how they went from magazine covers one year then several years later living in plain site on a farm. I would have expected that the guy who bought it in 58 would have paid a decent price being it was on a magazine just the year before. Most likely the red flames didn't hold up well to the exposure. I wonder when the grill was pulled as I would expect it would weather the same as the rest , unless a chrome grill was substituted right away. In any case I don't doubt the authenticity, I am sure they checked it out.

  10. I think that you all have missed one very important clue, this is in fact Roth's truck before he painted it white. Actually a pretty unique find.

Sure beats another '32 Ford 3/W barn find!

  12. That's some funny shit.

This thread has had it's 15 minutes of fame, Dave says he's not going to do a build thread on it so whether or not it is Big Daddy's truck is all nothing more than a moot point now.
Can someone close this thread so we can get back on track?

  13. Well this is about as on track as I have been all day.LOL

I would like to find two things that he did. One would be the Monster Shirt he did for me@ the Cow Palace and the other would be the '55 Chevy with the big MOPAR in it.

I think maybe it's unfair to attack the HAMB like that man... A found Roth truck is going to garner attention - especially when there is a lack of detail behind the find.

I can still remember the thread about the Orbitron and the "Mexican porn shop." That was nuts.

Point being, I don't think there is anything wrong with anyone having an opinion. Opinions make the world go round. It's when you stomp that shit out that things get weird.

Not to over restore the truck will be the biggest and toughest challenge. It's not that hard to make the truck perfect to todays standards, but restoring it to how it was, takes a special shop. Less is more.

Yeah, they did back in those days. New owners often changed out a show car or truck.

    Example: The Kookie "T".

Still in storage but the new owner completely changed it to white with blue flames, high back buckets, dual slicks and dual blowers.

Not even recognizable as the Kookie "T".

I have followed this thread from the very beginning. I may be wrong, and I am not going to reread the entire thread again to find out, but I don't think anyone was making any direct personal attacks on anyone. It seems that most of the "negative" responses were simply showing a healthy dose of skepticism which is unfortunately required anymore in these times we live in.

There have been a number of posts that have stated just because a certain person or people are involved it is a slam dunk and this truck has to be the real deal - well, not necessarily. I don't know Dave Shuten from Adam or anyone else who is currently involved in the find of this truck. How many people really know Dave and know of his reputation? I know I didn't before this thread came along but now I do.

I think everybody on both sides of the argument need to quit getting their panties in a bunch and just need to friggin calm the hell down. The passive aggressive shots being taken on this post are not helpful to anyone. I haven't commented up to this point because I simply don't know but at the same time I'm willing to hear both sides out.

I will say that I am really disappointed that Mr. Shuten got mad and decided to take his ball and go home. If this is indeed Roth's truck and I am inclined to think that it is from what I have seen and from now understanding the players that are involved, I think the HAMB is an appropriate venue where the restoration should be detailed.

    My 2 cents...

I hear ya... People over react. That too is natural.

But frankly, I don't think Dave should cover it here. Obviously, he's not going too... And he's not going to because he's not a big fan of the HAMB from what I understand. And you know what? I'm 100% cool with that man. I would never hold something so silly against him. I mean, I don't know the guy at all. I think I met him in a parking lot at the Round Up once when he pulled like a 30' trailer into the Hotel San Jose parking lot. Not exactly an ideal situation for him or us...

But folks, this is just a message board on the internet. To certain people it means a lot more than that. It's certainly more than that to me... But to most folks that's all it is. I think it's important to remember that. Keep shit relative and what not...

Ryan....cool that you're magnanimous...it's the only way to be if you operate a site like this I think. Dave must be more zen than me...because I still like to argue and prove guys wrong....if I am right. Problem is that to just walk away like Dave did also dismisses people that wish him and the restoration well...and frankly just love this shit.

  26. I'm just pissed that I didn't find it...seems lotsa kool shit is tucked away in Ok ;)

I have an MBA. I write for a living... And even so, I don't really know what "magnanimous" means. Seriously. No clue. How fucked up is that?

I'm not zen at all. Far from it in fact. I worry too much to be zen. But I've learned that opinions aren't a currency... And that everyone has one... And who cares if they don't all align?

Someone doesn't like my website? That's cool. I fucking hate sushi. Big deal.

Let people be. And then be.

Holy shit. Maybe I am zen... Or the pain killers are just making me chill.
