Put a 52 merc flathead with an s-10 5 speed in my 32 coupe. Have put 4700 miles on it this year without one problem. I love the way it runs and sounds. Flatheads forever for me! Have over 17,000 miles on it now!
All my flat heads are 6 in a row but I like them in all configurations V8, Straight 8, 4 Bangers, Double Lungers and even Single Cylinders that are vertical or horizontal. Flat heads do rule.
This is one of the receipts I got with the flatty I bought here in town - wish the prices were the same today.............................................
I have several ,yes they are more expensive than SBC and make way less power but you can't put a price on cool and the sound is so unique, this one is a survivor that a guy at work had, he got it from the widow next door, 59A Weiand Heads and 2x2 intake, Strombergs, Harmon-Collins dual coils
Man this engine KILLS. Im doing the gloss black finish as well....if theres ever been a prettier motor than a well built flathead, ive never seen it.
I didn't expect to see as many flatheads as I saw at Speed Week last week! They were EVERYWHERE! Also, all of the teams were really interested in hearing about my daughter's junior dragster since the engine on it is technically a flathead. I had to show many of them pics and of course most knew my builder, Chris McGee. It was fun to have something in common with cars at Bonneville. The flat head was the connection!
47 59ab, merc crank, ported and relieved, reground cam, Thickstun pm-7 and head covers linked to a 48 3 on the tree. Pulls my roadster along perfectly. I also have one in my 46 custom. Its stock. Nothing better! Sent from my SM-N900P using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Here's my 59AB. Still pretty much stock with 3 speed column and 6v positive ground. It has been a very reliable motor over the 12 years since I've owned the car.
Here's my 276 cuber in my 39. Winfield SU-1A cam and Holley 390. Built it in the early 90's and probably have over 50, 000 trouble free miles on it.
Have been running this for 40 something years. Usually gets a reaction - not enough studs and stupid wee 4bbl carb. Garpo
