It started leaking a little more. Lost about a gallon today. Will keep an eye on it.

I had a 58 Edsel, about 1965, 2 door hardtop, turquoise, white top, pretty car, bought for $15 with a blown auto trans. Wrecked my beautiful 56 Chev ragtop/ no insurance and needed a car to drive, also bought a 51 Ford 2 door sedan for $50 to drive while fixing Edsel. Called around (the junkyards in Milwaukee area were great to us kids) and bought a stick shift 3 speed complete deal including pedal for $75 w/ a cheap floor shifter and put it together, learned quickly that little Ford 3 speed that was designed for a flathead would not stand up to the 410 CI motor the Edsel had. This car was junked as I learned why you need a Scatter Shield when street racing, clutch/flywheel explosion, very fortunate to have my foot, only injury was some glass in eyes, no long term damage to me, EVERY car I had after that, mostly Chevy's, had that red steel shield we bought.(name ?) Reading your post brought this memory up, have not thought about that car for awhile, it was a short romance, only had and running about 2/3 months. Like so many here, some of our cars back then are classic 's today.

Neat story! I've noticed that this ugly old car makes a lot of people smile.

There is a noticeable growling under the car now and the headlights are dim. Just keeps getting more fun

Cool trophy! I like how they got the lemon and the 24 in there. Looks like you may need to put the poor ol' Edsel on an IV for the remainder of the trip. You need a couple of those stylish water bags the old cars used to carry on long trips. Great adventure, thanks for bringing us along.

Looks like the quick access hood pins, ( was this some kinda rare factory option?), may come in handy!
Thanks for sharing the adventure. Safe travels.

Saw Phil and picked up a transmission. Left front wheel bearing is new but the hub is worn and race is really loose . I put a whole bunch of grease in it. Will keep an eye on it.

That's pretty cool. Looks like you are in Nevada and you stopped for some Mexican food. Grease that bearing!!!

We have plans to get the word to a larger audience. If one more person does it as a result, it's worth the effort.

  25. Just catching up on HAMB and I see the Edsel made the journey for the rally, hope you make it home without any major issues. I suppose your low-budget engine rebuild is doing good and no engine troubles mentioned?

  26. That glympse is neat, Jim.

Are you or your brother driving? Glympse shows you weaving all over the road.

Or maybe it's that wheel bearing.

Hope you pull into your driveway just as the wheel falls off, that would be a great ending to the story.

My brother is driving. The GPS gets confused easily. The engine has been fantastic. Used one quart of oil. Purrs right along.

We've been keeping track of the wheel bearing lube schedule. It has about 1/32 inch play between the race and hub so it is moving alot. Stop to grease it every hundred miles
