Here is a question for you pro painters . What brand name tape do you that doesn't let the paint leak under the edge ? Thanks !
Yellow 3M auto masking tape is the only tape I will use! View attachment 3298090 Just painted my 32 Roadster and the stuff is very, very good. KK

haha it did that to me earlier tonight, and to several other members. something is glitchy and making multiple posts
The tape companies have a line of vinyl tape in various widths to use when laying out custom work that leaves a clean line. Otherwise I use the Yellow 3M as well.
3m yellow is good, American tape PG is very good, carworx orange tape, vibac has a yellow tape very good half price of 3m. All that I mentioned can go through a bake cycle as well. Also vibac has a new orange tape I left outside in direct sunlight and weather for 4 days, pulled the tape off not leaving any residue! You will find a lot of people brand driven on this issue, but all the guys hard core on 3m always forget when the 3m yellow would leave glue all over rubber weatherstripping. But it's human nature, if 3m tape has a defect the painter says what did I do wrong. If one of the other brands has a defect, they say your stuff sucks and never uses it again. A hardware distributor that came to my fathers store always told me that automotive masking tape was different than household masking tape. He said 3m would make a tape for whatever application you needed. Just give him the specs and it would be made. That being said, buy your tape from the car paint place not Lowe's or Home Depot. If you are doing two tone or striping ask the counter man what to use. 3m used to have something called Fine Line tape for striping, plastic not paper material. Everyone else had the same type of tape. I think they have even better stuff now!
Frog Tape! Just kidding. I don't like it that much in my line of work which is professional painting, residential that is. Jokes aside, 3M, and as stated buy it from your automotive paint specialist not the big box stores
I have used the 3M Green tape and some blue 3M fineline tape with no issues. I like the green better, because you can do bends better and it doesn't tear like the yellow.
The green will even stick to a dust covered floor....simply the best...makes a great bodymans bandaid tooo.
