Hot Rods Let's see some Packards!

This is one hell of nice photoshop job and makes for an absolutely stunning custom. If I had access to a junkyard '47 Packard, this would be my next project. Just something about the lines and flow of that car, Amazing!

 

Thanks, FrozenMerc. It was one of those "in between careers so let's fill the time to keep sane" projects from a couple of years ago and I'm pleased with the results.

Finding hot-rodded Packards that don't look like someone's experiment gone wrong is difficult, especially keeping it HAMB-friendly. Here's a '52 done up by Pinin Farina.

 

If I can find the time, I'd like to work up a hardtop rendering loosely based on the '54 Panther Daytona show car.

 

Sorry for the terrible photo quality, but this Packard custom was executed flawlessly.

I don't have a picture just a story of 2 Packards. The first one was my across the street neighbor's son. Walter Hintz on Codwise Place in Elmhurst Queens NY. It was a 37 or 38 5 window coupe with jump seats this was in 1963 and I was a kid who loved cars. This car had (I believe) original jet black paint, brownish tan mohair interior, 56 era Olds motor with hydro and the Olds rear. He ran the Olds hubcaps and Atlas bucron tires. This was an absolutely beautiful hot rod. The second was a Packard Panther around a 1954. It had come into Elm Motors on Queens Blvd also in Elmhurst Queens, I would hang out as a kid at their repair shop when I saw this one of a kind Packard. I found out about 5 years ago just how rare this car was.

Well I guess it sold as the ad was deleted but it sure got this thread fired back up after a year.

 

Always loved Packards, grew up with one in the garage- my dad's '37 120 convertible coupe. He sold it about 15 years ago when he ran into a bit of financial trouble, one of the few times I ever saw him cry.

Been wanting one myself for a long time, and while this '56 Clipper isn't mine, it just might be soon. Stay tuned.

Got some Cadillac Sombrero caps at the Iola swap meet this weekend and tried them on the Panama, I like the look and am going to run them for a while. The stock caps aren't bad looking either but this is a bit more custom. Also put a couple of sand bags in the trunk so the ass end doesn't sit 5 inches taller than the front. I kinda wish this car had normal suspension in it.

 

Since there's no Corona Station Wagon thread, I'm sneaking this one in here.

 

She has been the family for 25 years 1939 110 touring

 

Spent some time on the car over the last couple weeks, shaved the hood and all of the side emblems and the grille ornament, painted the inner headlight bezels body color, fixed the dents in the passenger front fender and re-did some really bad bodywork around the headlights and in the lower quarters, ect.

There's a few more things I'd like to do yet but I like where it stands at the moment.

That community was quite an experience to visit. I was outside a cyclone fence taking photos of this group of cars and a young guy came walking down the street in his Sunday best and asked if I would like to go inside. He unlocked the gate and then told me that they live up the street in the big green house in case I have any questions: and please lock the gate when I leave. And off he went. I went into an antique store loaded with petroliana and the lady there took a phone call and said she had to go to the city park and would be back in a bit. She said to go ahead and move things around if I need to, and she was gone. I thought I was in Mayberry. View attachment 3296959

So, it's a Packard without the "Packard" grill........never knew that, silly me.

 

Here's something completely different

 

Here's my '53 Clipper Deluxe as she sits currently. This was my very first car, bought when I was 14. I ran the original 327 for about a year until I blew it up, and then replaced with another 327 and drove it for a few more years through high school and votech.. Now it has another 327 in it, but this time its out of a '64 Corvette, backed by an aluminum PG and the stock rear end with 4.10 gears! Should move pretty decent when she's back on the road!



I believe this car here was built by a local guy where I'm from, Eureka, CA. His name is Peter Portugal, and he's built several other very high quality custom cars. Ive got several parts from him over the years. If I remeber right this one started life as a sedan and all the panels were hand made by himself. I'm not sure if its a replica of a real Pinin Farina body or if its a "what if" type of build, but it is surely immaculate either way.

Any idea how many Studes were built with that bubble top? Got to pretty rare.
